a 463 it appearing to said Council that the said proposition did not receive a two thirds majority, as required by law, it was moved by Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Dusel, that said proposition to incur said bonded indebtedness in the sum of sixty thousand ($60,000) dollars, as aforesaid, be declared lost. Motion carried by the following votes: Ayes, Councilman H A Beeger, W J Dusel, C J Hildebrant, C G Lambert, P A McCarthy, G W McNulty, D R Stafford. Noes, Councilmen: None. Absent, Councilmen: None. Mayor Stafford before relinquishing his office as Mayor made a statement of the work of his office which was ordered filed. The Councilmen led by Councilman McCarthy spoke very highly of Councilman Stafford's service during his incumbency and deplored the necessity of his leaving the Council. On motion of Councilman Hildebrant, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the Council adjourned sine die. 1, Following a short recess the newly elected members of the Council, were sworn in by the City Attorney and their formal oaths were ordered filed with the City Clerk. The new organization of the Council, on motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Lambert, chose Councilman Dusel as chairman of the Council and ex—officio Mayor of Redwood City. Mayor Dusel expressed his willingness to cooperate with the Council in doing whatever was necessary during the two years before him. Councilman McCarthy praised Councilman Jones for his interest in civic matters and indicated that in his opinion he would be a welcome addition to the Council. In reply Councilman Jones stated that while he was representing the South Redwood District his efforts would not in any way be limited to any one part of the City. Ed. McCauley, director of unemployment relief of the San Mateo County Committee on unemployment relief, asked the Council to take some steps to correlate the work of the City with that of the County inasmuch as Mr. Stafford's leaving the Council would effect a change in the present set up. On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the present committee on unemployment relief was discharged and the Mayor authorized to select a committee to continue the work. Members of the Planning Commission were present and Mr. Witte introduced Hugh Pomeroy, representing the San Mateo County Planning Committee, who outlined the plans for the parking and zoning of the Bayshore Highway and asked that the Council give the City Planning Commission authority to hold hearings in regard to the study of the set back lines on the Bayshore Highway, which was done, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant. The City Manager asked the policy of the Council in regard to the purchase of pipe from manufacturers in the United States and in foreign countries and when told the difference was about $100, the Council, on motion of Councilman Hildebrant, seconded by Councilman McNulty, authorized the City Manager to buy the pipe in question pursuant to the following quotation: U.S. Pipe & Foundry Cc: DeLavaud Pipe 2,850 ft 031.09 $30106.50 Fittings • 115.85 $3,222.35
