i
1W
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 3, 1935
8:00 P.M.
Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor, C. G. Lambert, L. C. Christensen,
J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, P: A. McCarthy, Geo. W. McNulty, City Clerk, B. E.
EMyers. Absent: None.
The minutes of the meetingMay of y 20 , 1935, were approved on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded
by Councilman Eva.
sJulius Titz, corner of Brewster Avenue and Clinton Street, protested unnecessary noise at the
" Episcopal Church building, and he was told that investigation would be made.
Roy Hohberger, Y.M.C.A. Secretary, spoke to the Council about the desirability of building bleachers
i
' on the soft baseball diamond, indicating that there was rather a large attendance at the games
and that the collections taken up could be diverted to the City toward the payment of such
construction. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the matter
was referred to the Manager, with instructions to build the bleachers at the most reasonable
figure.
Norman S. Menifee appeared before the Council in connection with the case of Eugenie Ruellan and
Alfred Ruellan, her husband, vs. W. H. Thorpe and the City of Redwood City, covering automobile
accident at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Jefferson Avenues. He recalled that a judg-
ment had been had for $2,850, and that an agreement had been entered into by which the City
guaranteed the payment of $850. As the receivers of the insurance carrier had indicated that
It would be some time before any possible moneys might be had, Mr. Menifee asked the Council
to pay this $850, covering bills of local doctors and hospitals. On motion of Councilman
Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Eva, the Treasurer was ordered to pay the amount which re-
presented the actual expense incurred for medical services, etc.
Mr. Menifee also appeared in connection with the Buben matter and indicated that he had received
information of a contradictory nature and was willing to work out the affair in the proper way.
In order to get it before the Council clearly and comprehensively, the Building Inspector was
asked to make a complete written report of the case for further consideration.
Mr. C. B. Mish made strong protest against allowing the weeds which had been mowed to lie around on
vacant lots as, he said, such treatment constituted a fire hazard and also allowed the dry grass
and weeds to blow on to other people's property. It was finally decided either to pick up and
take away such cut material, or to burn it.
Clifford Walk, who has been investigating the possibilities of a local airport and obtaining data
'concerning costs and probable revenue, proposed that the Council take further steps in this
connection, and suggested that it would be a profitable thing for someone to go to Los Angeles
to interview the owner of the property in an effort to obtain a satisfactory lease and to see
different manufacturers in regard to locating factories on the site. On motion of Councilman
Eva, seconded by Councilman Christensen, it was ordered that sufficient funds, not to exceed
$509 be appropriated to pay the expenses of Mr. Walk to Los Angeles for this purpose.
At this time the Joe Wasserman application for an auto wrecking establishment at 1135 Main Street
R
