REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 16, 1935
j; 5:00 P. M.
} Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor, C. G. Lambert, L. C.
f' Christensen, J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, Geo. W.
McNulty and City Clerk, B. E. Myers.
t
The minutes of the meeting of December 2, 1935, were approved on motion of Councilman
kg Christensen, seconded by Councilman McCarthy.
Clif Walk made a report concerning the Lease•for Airport grounds and asked Mr. Mansfield,
City Attorney, to make further explanation of the conditions of the Lease. The
i
• Attorney reported that generally the Lease specifies a rental of $25 a month for the
first two years and that the Lease could be extended after the first two years for
three years at $50 a month upon a month to month basis, with the proviso that if the
land were sold, the sale would automatically cancel the Lease. On motion of Councilman
McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, it was decided to enter into the Lease as
prepared, and the Mayor was authorized to execute it. In addition, on motion of
6
1 Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Eva, the City Treasurer was authorized to
pay to M. F. O'Dea, the lessor, $25 for the first month's rent. Following this, Mayor
Lambert appointed Councilman Christensen, City Manager Dimmitt and Clif Walk to serve on
a committee for the purpose of drawing up regulations concerning the activities at the
Airport.
David Cosgrave, Attorney, representing D. L. Walter, asked the Council for definite per-
mission to erect the building on Jefferson Avenue opposite the Postoffice for a French
Laundry. It was stated that the laundry was practically a steam laundry and if such
were the case the property would have to be rezoned. It was also shown, in any event,
that a notice should have been posted on the property calling attention to the matter
and giving anyone interested an opportunity to protest. This, however, was not done.
It was finally decided that the City Clerk refer the matter to the Planning Commission
and that Mr. Cosgrave and Mr. Walter be prepared to present the matter before that
Commission. This, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher.
Both Councilman McCarthy and City Manager Dimmitt reported progress on the Harbor project.
On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the City Treasurer was author-
ized to make the salary of C. L. Dimmitt as City Engineer during the time he is acting
as City Manager, $416.66 a month.
Mayor Lambert reported that Mrs. G. B. Casaretto, Woodside Road, had asked him about planting
D
trees along the road. The matter was referred to City Manager Dimmitt. I
In connection with the desire of the Library Trustees to take advantage of a five year rate
on the insurance covering the building and contents, it was ordered, on motion of
Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McCarthy, that the amount, some $400, be
V
expended from the Library Fund and that some adjustment be made at the end of the
fiscal year.
