f <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />FEBRUARY 3i 1936 <br />t 9:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor, C. G. Lambert, L. C. Christensen, <br />J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, -Geo. W. McNulty and City Clerk, <br />B. E. Myers. Absent: None. <br />The minutes of the meeting of January 20, 1936, were approved on motion of Councilman Eva, <br />seconded by Councilman McNulty. <br />Wayne R. Millington, Attorney for his client, Lucille K. Gillis, filed claim against the City <br />of Redwood Cit in the sum of $2 00 for dam <br />City ,5 ages which Mrs. Gillis claims she suffered <br />1 11 <br />because of a fall on the sidewalk on Broad <br />� way near Brewster Avenue. The claim was re- <br />ferred to the City Attorney for his recommendation. <br />At this meeting bids were received for Public Liability and General Liability Insurance. The <br />following were submitted: <br />Pacific Indemnity Company by the Walter Insurance Agency; <br />Indemnity Insurance Company of America (non -board) and the Great American <br />Indemnity Company (board) submitted by Robert A. Higgins & Company of <br />San Francisco; X <br />Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company by Henry Witte of Redwood City; <br />St. Paul Mercury Indemnity Company by D. A. Mason, San Francisco. <br />i <br />From the complexity of the bonds submitted, it was impractical to try to decide immediately <br />to whom the insurance should be given, and therefore, on motion of Councilman Eva, <br />seconded by Councilman McNulty, the Mayor was prompted -to appoint a committee to inves- <br />tigate and report back at the next meeting, with some definite recommendation. Mayor <br />Lambert appointed to serve on this committee, Councilmen McCarthy and Fletcher. <br />Councilman Jones presented resolution and proposed its adoption in which the City Manager was <br />authorized to have erected "Stop" signs on Spruce Street on both sides of Middlefield <br />Road. Carried. <br />Fred H. Drake, San Carlos, called attention to the meeting February 7 of the representatives <br />from the various municipalities, water districts and private water companies to organize <br />a study committee to solve the solution for more and cheaper water. Mayor Lambert <br />appointed Councilman McCarthy to represent Rgdwood City at its meeting. <br />Florence S. Wampler asked the Council, on behalf of the Seventh Day Adventists Church, for <br />1 permission to remove a'small building now at the Airport to the church's property on <br />James Street to serve temporarily as relief headquarters for their organization. It <br />seemed undesirable to make this arrangement, and the Clerk was instructed to write Mrs. <br />Wampler about it. Mayor Lambert thought that in consideration of the work they were <br />doing that some plan could be arranged to find a suitable building. <br />There was read a letter from A. T. Mercier, General Manager, Southern Pacific Company, San <br />Francisco, concerning certain suggestions for handling traffic across the tracks both <br />at Broadway and Main Street. It was proposed that uniformed police officers be <br />stationed at the Broadway crossing during the full twe:ity-four hours, and the Company <br />1'7• <br />
