m
I
u
busses on Winslow Street worked a hardship and that they should be allowed to come
closer to the station, and it was intimated that a good place would be between the
station and the palm tree so that the location would be as convenient as possible
for users of the bus line. On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman
Christensen, the City Manager was asked to interview the railroad officials to see
what could be done.
Councilman Eva brought up several matters concerning the softbaseball diamond at Hawes
Park. He requested the City Attorney to say whether or not there was any City
responsibility so far as spectators, players and officials were concerned and the
attorney indicated that according to his opinion there was no responsibility. The
request for a straight meter in place of the present coin meter was denied as it
was thought the coin meter sufficed. The question of proper police protection was
left up to Chief Collins. Request that the City maintain the grounds and also
install more lights near or back of the backstop was referred to the .City Manager.
Councilman Eva also asked if anything could -be done to improve the telephone service
and moved that the Council go on record as recommending to the Chamber of Commerce
that that Body take up with the Telephone Company the question of improvement and
modernization of telephone service in Redwood City. Motion seconded by Councilman
Fletcher and carried.
The City Attorney presented, as requested, a suggested ordinance requiring dogs to be on
leash when off premises of the owners or not in closed cars, but the matter was
laid over.
On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, Resolution was unanimously
adopted approving agreement between Lilian A. Rolph and the City of Redwood City,
option for the purchase of harbor land, and directing the City Clerk to sign and
record said agreement on behalf of said City.
On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, Resolution was unanimously
adopted approving agreement between Geo. A. Merrill and Sarah E. Merrill, his wife, and
the City of Redwood City, option for the purchase of harbor land and directing the City
Clerk to sign and record said agreement on behalf of said City.
On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, Resolution was unanimously
adopted approving agreement between Andrew A. Brown, Deceased, and Peter tum Suden,
Executor of the Last Will and Testament of Ada I. Brown, Deceased, and the City of
Redwood City, option for the purchase of harbor land, and directing the City Clerk to
sign and record said agreement on behalf of said City.
William Vielhauer, Editor of the Tribune, explained about his correspondence with Washington,
the purport of which indicated that the next step was up to the City to show its good
intentions; so, in line with the discussion, on motion of Councilman McCarthy,
seconded by Councilman Eva, the City Attorney was instructed to prepare the necessary
proceedings for submitting to the people of Redwood City a bond issue for approximately
$200,000 for money to be expended in connection with the development of the Harbor.
•
