B
MINUTES OF REGUIM. =TING
REDWOOD" CITY. COUNCIL.
APRIL'202 1936
9:00 P. M.
Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor, C. G. Lambert, L. C.rChristensen,
' J. M. Eva, E. A. Pletcher, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, Geo. W. McNulty and City Clerk,
B. E. Myers. Absent: None.
The minutes of the meeting of April 6, 1936,'were approved on motion of Councilman Jones,
awl
seconded by Councilman McNulty.
John Harkness.asked the Council whether or not it would be possible to obtain a refund of a
$20 payment originally made to the City some years ago for a water meter. The matter
was referred to the City Manager.
Thos. Jawin, for Montgomery Ward & Company, asked if it could be arranged that the company
install a sprinkler system in its building to connect up with the Water Department mains
without charge, with the understanding that whatever expense was incurred by the City
connecting up with the sprinkler system would be paid by the company. Fire Chief Ryan
advised that it was desirable to have such a sprinkler system as this building was one
of the larger buildings in Redwood City. It was finally decided, on motion of Councilman
Pletcher, seconded by Councilman Eva, to grant permission to make the connection as
suggested, reserving the right to make a stand-by charge whenever the number of such
systems would warrant a charge.
George D. Van Tine, of the Murdock Motors Company, asked permission to set up a Pontiac
Automobile Sales Room in the Gardiner Building, corner of Broadway and Wharf Street.
He was given permission with the understanding that the drive-in should be from Wharf
Street and that the business would be limited to a sales room.
Larry Hansom, of the Shell Oil Company, asked for definite information concerning the set-
back at the Shell corner of E1 Camino Real and Main Street. His request was referred
to the City Attorney with instructions to take up the matter with the City Engineer.
In connection with the request of George S. Paddleford, Inc. to be allowed to use the
northerly corner of E1 Camino Real and James Street for a Mused carp lot, a communi-
cation was road from the Planning Commission indicating that the Planning Commission
reserved its decision and made no definite recommendation. Al. Davies, representing
the established Anew carp automobile dealers requested the Council, if it were possible,
to take some action which would protect such dealers from outsiders coming in and
setting up such sales outlets to get rid of their used cars. The Clerk was instructed,
to ask Mr. Paddleford, or a representative, to be present at the next regular meeting
of the Council on May 4 before anything definite was done toward denying permission to
use the lot indicated.
In order to dispose of the claim of Mrs. D. D' London, on motion of Councilman McCarthy,
seconded by Councilman Christensen, the claim was rejected.
In order to dispose of the claim of Mrs. Lucile It. Gillis, on motion of Councilman
Christensen, seconded by Councilman Jenes, the claim was rejected.
On motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Pletcher, Ordinance No. 372, applying
1W
0
