Concerning the benefit to be realized by reducing the
water rates, Councilman Seeger suggested the alternative of using the surplus money to retire
outstanding municipal bonds issued for the benefit of the Water Department, most of which had been
at 5.4. Before deciding on the reduction of the water rates, on motion of Councilman Lambert,
'seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, Councilman Beeger's suggestion was referred to the City Attorney
for his ruling on whether or not the money from the utility could be used for retiring its own
bonds, to report at the next meeting, at which time further consideration would be given to the
matter of reducing water- rates.
Several of the Councilmen as well as citizens present at the meeting discussed the difficulties of
enforcing the garbage ordinance, but the City Manager and Health Officer explained what they were
doing and how they were meeting the situation.
Samuel Bright of the Redwood City Cleaners on Main Street asked the Council to classify him as a
tailor rather than as a cleaner and. that his license fee might" be correspondingly'reduced.
-He stated"that all his cleaning was' done`by the 'Sterling Cleaners and that -they 'also paid d
"license. Tlie matter was referred'to "tbe'Citq" Manager.
The departmental reports were ordered filed.
The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Beeger.
Adjournment.
City Clerk
BEM:MR
17
t
