MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />JULY 24, 1936 <br />8:00 P.M. <br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor, Paul A. McCarthy, L. C. <br />Christensen, J. M. Eva, E. A, Fletcher, Wm. Hohn, R. N. Jones, G. W. McNulty. <br />Absents: ,City Clerk, B. E. Myers.... <br />In the absence of City Clerk, B. E. Myers, Councilman Eva was chosen Clerk pro tem. <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Hohn, the following resolution <br />was unanimously carried'.' <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City has undertaken the development <br />of a harbor and port on publicly owned land on Redwood Creek, and the <br />voters of -Redwood. City have authorized the City Council to issue bonds <br />in the sum of $255,000 as the City's contribution thereto;, and <br />WHEREAS, the, United States Government in recognition of the <br />benefits,of said harbor and port development.to commerce generally and <br />to assist in .the construction of worth -while public works has contributed <br />$94,000 as one-half .of the cost of the necessary dredging, and has allo- <br />cated to said project from Federal Emergency Administration of Pablic <br />Works the sum of $71,235; and <br />WHEREAS, the benefits of the development of said harbor and <br />port will not be confined locally to the municipality of Redwood City, <br />but are of County wide significance in providing the first deep water <br />publicly owned harbor and port within the County of San Mateo and in the <br />prospective encouragement and development of the industrial activity and <br />growth of said County; and <br />WHEREAS, the prospective commerce through Port Redwood City <br />justifies the construction of more adequate facilities than those ori— <br />ginally planned, which additional facilities will entail costs of <br />approximately $50,000 additional to those originally planned; <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the <br />City of. Redwood City hereby respectfully requests the Board of Supervisors <br />of the County of San Mateo to provide as an economic contiribution•of said <br />County to said public project the sum of $50,000 and to include said sum <br />in the County budget for 1936-1937; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of <br />Redwood City pledges the use of such sum in providing larger and better <br />facilities at Port Redwood City to the end that the County of San Mateo <br />will derive full economic value from the use of such sum. <br />Adjournment. <br />City Clerk <br />D <br />
