MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING

<br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were prosent: Mayor, Paul A. McCarthy, L. C. Chris-
<br />tensen, J. M. Eva, E, A. Fletcher, W= Kohn, R. N. Jones, G. W. McNulty and City Clerk,
<br />B. E. Myers. Absent: None.
<br />The minutes of the regular meeting of July 20 and special meeting of July 24, 1936, were ap-
<br />proved as mailed, on motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty.
<br />Mrs. M. Helen Stewart, 626 Homer Avenue, Palo Alto, appeared before the Board to ask permission
<br />to solicit money in the business section of Redwood City for the benefit of the National
<br />Transcribers Society for •the Blind. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Coun-
<br />cilman Eva, she was granted permission.
<br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Eva, so-called "Used Car" Ordinance
<br />No. 376 was unanimously adopted.
<br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Hohn, Salary Ordinance amending
<br />Ordinance No. 313 was introduced.
<br />On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty, and unanimously carried, the Mayor
<br />and City Clerk were authorized to enter into, and execute, agreement with the Pacific
<br />Portland Cement Company concerning the disposal of oyster shells encountered in the course
<br />of dredging "Crass" Island or "Mud" Island.
<br />This agreement was entered into relying upon the oral assurances given to the
<br />Mayor and the Acting City Manager by John Colton, Vice -President of the Pacific Portland
<br />Cement Company, in charge of operation, that the foregoing contract permits the City of
<br />Redwood City to have the use of such shell from said island as the City may reasonably
<br />require, in its opinion, for use on land belonging to, or under optional purchase by the
<br />City of Redwood City.
<br />Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Christensen, proposed adoption of resolution authorizing
<br />the Acting City Manager to sign agreement with the Department of Pablic Works+ Division of
<br />Highways, concerning the expenditure of 1/4 cent tax forrState Highways in Redwood City
<br />during the fiscal year ending June 30, 1936. Unanimously carried.
<br />Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposed the adoption of resolution
<br />authorizing the Acting City Manager to sign agreement with the Department of Public Works,
<br />Division of Highways, concerning the expenditure of the 1/40 tax for streets of major im-
<br />portance in Redwood City during the fiscal year ending June 30, 1937. Unanimously carried.
<br />Councilman Pletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposed that the Acting City Manager be
<br />authorized to enter into contract with, and that said contract be awarded to, the Taylor
<br />House Wrecking Company covering the wrecking and removing of buildings on the old corpora-
<br />tion yard, Chestnut Street and Middlefield Road. Carried.
<br />On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty, with Councilman Jones voting "No",
<br />dance permits, revocable at any time, were granted to the following people with the under-
<br />standing that there should be mechanical music only, that there should be no dancing on
