the Council taking such steps as necessary to protect the city from outside interests
taking advantage of the harbor set-up. On motion of Councilman Pletcher, seconded
by Councilman Eva, the City Attorney and the City Manager were authorized to proceed
to take whatever steps may be necessary for the annexation of the land affected.
Thos. Kane, Manager of the Sequoia Theatre, and Robert Pearson, Manager of the Redwood
Theatre, appeared before the Council to assure the Council they would cooperate in
every way in eliminating any fire hazards due to the congestion of persons in the
aisles or vestibule. On the strength of this assurance, the Council decided to
postpone legislation.
C. S. Grandi appeared before the Council to ask permission to make a quotation covering
the insurance on the automobile fleet for fire, theft and collision when renewals
were due, indicating that he could save the city some money. The matter was re-
ferred to the insurance committee and the Clerk instructed to bring the question
up at the next meeting.
The City Massager told the C..uncil that the local merchants, in addition to depositing
with the city the $375 they had promised, had also turned in an extra $100 to apply
toward the expense of Christmas decorations. The Council, on motion of Councilman
Christensen, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, then decided to appropriate an addi-
tional $100 from city funds to match this money.
Councilman Eva asked what had been done about traffic signals at the various railroad
crossings and indicated that something definite should•be decided. After consider-
able discussion, it was thought best to delay the matter until the next meeting and
permit the committee on crossing signals to prepare some definite plan or type of
signals to be recommended to the Council.
The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by
Councilman Eva.
Adjournment.
BEM: MR
A. . / /
City Clerk
0
'1
O!
