Mayor McCarthy made a preliminary report concerning the municipal bus lines and indicated
a more complete report would be made later.
Discussion concerning the new City Hall was laid over until. the next meeting.
Ordinance requiring a survey to be made of lots before buildings were put on them was
laid over until first meeting in July.
Nathan Adler requested permission to present Sunday evening, the 27th, the film, "Spain
in Flames". Considerable discussion_ was elicited as to the desirability of granting
the permit. However, finally, it appeared that if the persons concerned desired
to present this film without making a charge and open to the public, that no permit
would be necessary.
Mrs. Miramontes, the City Collector, submitted the following letter:
"On June 21, 1937, I was authorized by Mr. J. M. Eva to accept $3145.02
on the following property instead of $14614.55 as was actually due if the
amount was paid in tall:
Lot 29, Resub of Lot 1, For 3 - 71 17 & M Sub
Current Tax $
3.32
11 Wee& Tax
11{4
Penalty -Cost
1.39
Bond Assmt. Will
you kindly confirm the above authorization?ll
On motion of Councilman Pletcher, seconded by Councilmen McNulty, proper authorize -
tion was given.
The City Collector also asked what could be done concerning the payment by the County
of city taxes on two parcels now owned by the County described as follows:
Arb. Blk. 393A - Owner, W. J. Dusel
Arb. Blk. 360 - Owner, George Hansen
It was thought best in the circumstances that these taxes be canceled, and the
City Tan Collector was so instructed.
The Treasurer was told to write the State Compensation Insurance Fund that the City
desired to rene^T its contract for compensation insurance for the ensuing fiscal
year.
The Clerk read a letter from the President of the Sequoia Union High School Parent
Teachers Association in which protest was made about the granting of a permit
to the Safeway Store at Brerater and Arch to sell intoxicating liquors. The
letter also requested the Council to take steps to prevent the granting of such
a permit. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Eva, the
Clerk was instructed to write to the Board of Equalization opposing the granting
of a permit to this Safeway Store to sell spirituous liquors, Mayor McCarthy
voting 1117011.
