ri <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 2, 1937 <br />9:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor Paul A. McCarthy, Councilmen <br />L. C. Christensen, J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, Wm. Rohn, and G. W. McNulty, <br />and City Clerk, B. E. Myers. <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of July 19 were approved on motion of Councilman <br />j Christensen, seconded by Councilman Hohn. <br />kMr. Henry Witte, representing Mrs. Lucille Brignetti, asked the Council to grant per- <br />mission to Mrs. Brignetti to make a temporary construction at the Nipa Hut with <br />the understanding that Mrs. Brignetti would make a statement that the structure <br />was temporary only and that when, and if, E1 Camino Real were widened, there would <br />be no additional charge to the State Highway Commission. With this understanding, <br />permission was granted on motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. <br />I <br />R. J. Currie asked permission to construct a canvas canopy over the present steel <br />salesroom at the corner of James Avenue and E1 Camino Real and also to cover a <br />further area beyond the present salesroom, a total spread of about 17 x 22 feet. <br />i <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen, permission <br />j; was granted to erect such a canopy revocable at the pleasure of the Council. <br />I <br />Julius Smith, in person, asked the City Council whether or not it was possible to <br />appropriate sufficient money that the Engineering Department might establish <br />center lines on all the business streets for the purpose of making it easier for <br />property owners to establish their property lines. Considerable discussion ensued, <br />but no action was taken. <br />i Mrs. Eva Stocker, representing the American Brotherhood for the Blind with headquarters <br />at Los Angeles, asked the Council for permission to have a "flower sale" on <br />August 7 or 14 for the purpose of raising money to carry on the organization's <br />work among the blind. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman <br />' Eva, permission was granted for such a sale for one day. <br />Stanley Edwards asked permission to stage a soft baseball game to be played by men on <br />burros with the understanding that a collection would be taken and divided with <br />t' <br />the Recreation Department. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Council- <br />a man Eva, permission was given to have such a game under the supervision of Alfred <br />s <br />Morton. <br />4 Thomas Coats asked the Council whether or not it would be possible to surface Valota <br />i <br />} Road according to plans already arranged. He was told that a few of the property <br />owners had failed and refused to pay their share and that it seemed necessary <br />to refund the money, and it was so ordered. <br />i <br />B. -.A.
