348 <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY'COUNCIL <br />JULY 19, 1937 <br />$:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor Paul A. McCarthy, <br />Councilmen L. C. Christensen, J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, Wm. Hohn, <br />i <br />i' <br />and G. W. McNultyi and City Clerk, B. E. Myers. j <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of July 6 were approved on motion of Councilman <br />Christensen, seconded by Councilman Hohn. <br />Mayor McCarthy appointed Mrs. Z. T. Thorning and Mr. 0. B. Whittenburg to succeed <br />themselves on the Board of Library Trustees as of July 1, and the appointment <br />was approved by the Council on motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman <br />Christensen. <br />There was read a letter from the State Board of Equalization in which there was out- <br />lined somewhat the procedure for complaints against the granting of permits to <br />sell liquor in Redwood City. On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Council- <br />man Hohn, it was decided to have the Chief of Police refer to the Council any <br />application for transfer of licenses or for new application for permit to sell <br />hard liquors. <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Eva, the Clerk was instructed <br />to have the firms operating taxis in Redwood City file with him a tariff schedule i <br />showing their charges. <br />Discussion of James Street sidewalks was laid over until the second meeting in <br />August. <br />Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Eva, proposed the adoption of the follow- <br />ing resolution which carried unanimously. <br />11RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Redwood City, that in conformity <br />with Chapter 397 of the Statutes of 1931 of the State of California, and other <br />laws, that the minimum compensation to be paid for any skilled or unskilled <br />labor for work provided in the contract for furnishing materials and performing <br />accessory construction at Wharf and Transit Shed on Redwood Creek at Redwood <br />City, San Mateo County, California, shall be not less than specified as follows: <br />Trade or occupation Per Diem Hourly Rates for Legal Holidays <br />Wage Waae Rate and Overtime <br />Welders $11.00 $1.372 Double Time <br />Welders Helpers 8.50 1.10 <br />Caulkers 8.50 1.10 <br />"The foregoing schedule of per diem wages is based upon a working day of <br />eight hours, except as otherwise noted. The hourly wage rate prescribed here- <br />inabove is the per diem rate divided by the afdrementioned number of hours <br />constituting a working day.° <br />Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposed that ordinances and <br />i <br />resolutions be mailed to the councilmen at least three days before the meet- <br />ing at which such ordinances and/or resolutions would be considered.
