312 <br />°BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That other groups of employees and other <br />employers be urged to show the same intelligence, moderation and con- <br />sideration for the rights of each other and their mutual duties to each <br />other to the end that this region may avoid the bitter strife that in <br />other parts of this country too frequently followed differences between <br />employers and employees over wages, working conditions, rights of collec- <br />tive bargaining and other industrial and economic questions; <br />"BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution, certified <br />by the Clerk of this council, be forward to Pacific Portland Cement <br />Company, United Cement Workers Union, Local 760, International Associa- <br />tion of Machinists, Local 68, Electricians Union 617 and Carpenters Union." <br />Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, proposed the adoption of <br />the following resolution which was unanimously carried: <br />"WHEREAS, AUXILIARY OF PENINSULA HOSPITALS has been organized by <br />prominent women of Redwood City and other parts of Southern San Mateo <br />County to assist those in need of hospital care and who are unable im- <br />mediately to pay for it, and to carry on practical social work in con- <br />nection with the hospitals of this region; and <br />"WHEREAS, said Auxiliary of Peninsula Hospitals will supply in this <br />vicinity an important social economic and charitable need and is there- <br />fore to be encouraged and given approval by regularly constituted public <br />bodies; <br />"NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of <br />Redwood City, that said Auxiliary and the organizers and members thereof <br />be commended in this new undertaking; <br />"FURTHER RESOLVED, That this Council express its gratitude and apprec- <br />iation to the organizers and members of said Auxiliary for their public <br />spirited action in promoting and developing said Auxiliary to render aid <br />to worthy needy persons in this region; <br />°FURTHER RESOLVED, That citizens of Southern San Mateo County whose <br />means or income enables them to contribute to the maintenance of said <br />Auxiliary be urged to give financial support to said Auxiliary to the end <br />that it may be enabled to accomplish its purposes with the promptness and <br />to the extent intended by the founders thereof; <br />"FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution, certified by clerk <br />of this Council be forwarded to Mrs. Henry Seeger, secretary of said <br />Auxiliary.11 <br />On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty; Councilman Christ6nsen <br />was given pera ssion to leave the state. <br />Councilman Eva indicated that he wished the Council to give consideration to the <br />establishment of a civil service for municipal employees, and in order to <br />have the subject properly presented, the Mayor appointed a committee for this <br />purpose consisting of Councilman Eva as chairman, Mayor McCarthy, and Council- <br />man Christensen. <br />The following matters were laid over until the next meeting: <br />1. Discussion concerning new City Hall <br />2. Stone and Youngberg letter. <br />3 Municipal bus line. <br />4. James Avenue sidewalk. <br />The departmental reports were ordered filed. <br />The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by <br />Councilman Christensen. <br />Adjournment to Monday, August 9, 1937, 7:30 P.
