Councilman MoNulty, that the Clerk convey to Mr. R. Lee Otis that the
City would assume official sponsorship for the municipal band, but did so
with the understanding that there should be regular practice and that
services of the band would be available on appropriate occasions.
Electric Utility Acquisition
Mayor McCarthy and the City Attorney recommended that the City employ special
counsel to draft all the papers necessary for the election and the issue
of bonds, and to furnish advice from the present until after the bonds
are sold. It was recommended that the City secure the services of
Orrick, Palmer, and Dahlquist of San Francisco, and it was so ordered, on
motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Hohn.
It was reported that the Railroad Commission's finding set a value of $4880000
for the value, of the P. G. & E. electric distribution system; that to this
amount should be added some $27,000 for subsequent additions. Mayor
McCarthy suggested that extra items and the need for a minimum amount of
working capital would make it advisable to make the total amount involved
$575,000 and recommended that the City Attorney on this basis institute
proceedings for 20 year bonds. It was so ordered on motion of Council-
man Jones, seconded by Councilman McNulty.
Mayor McCarthy read to the Council a prepared statement setting forth certain
data and arguments which he asked the Council to authorize printed. After
discussion, roll call was taken and the statement was authorized, the
following Councilmen voting "No": Councilmen Eva, bhristensen, and Fletcher.
The City Treasurer asked the attitude of the Council toward buying United States
Savings Bonds in the amount of $7,500, the maximum allowed by the government.
On motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Eva, he was authorized
to buy bonds in such a quantity and to have them registered in the name
of the City of Redwood City.
'he approved claims were ordered paid on, motion of Councilman McNulty and
Councilman Fletcher.
Adjournment to Monday, 8:00 P. M. September 27, 1937, on motion of Councilman
Hohn, seconded by Councilman Christensen.
BEM:mps
C1
0
