tracks and that passengers be allowed to board the train on the station side as
is done at all other peninsula stations. Carried.
Answering a question of the City Treasurer, on motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by
Councilman McNulty, he was told it would be unnecessary to continue in the
accounts of the City the claim of the City against the Towne Estate for $35,701.49.
On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty, there were adopted three
resolutions accepting deeds from Thomas and Anna Amandola, Dorothy M. Adam, and
Leon Becu.
In connection with the 80 lots which the City had been planning to take over from
Milton T. Smith, it was decided on the strength of a letter from the City
Attorney, and on motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Jones, to
take 76 of these lots, the title to which seemed to be satisfactory, omitting
4 lots, the title to which was not satisfactory. The Treasurer was ordered to
pay for these 76 lots at $7.50 per lot, in accordance with the recommendation
of the City Attorney.
On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the City Manager was
asked to communicate with the Greyhound Bus Lines, and ask them to arrange,
if possible, a bus station on private property near the center of the City.
Councilman Eva again referred to the removing of two oak trees from the circular
park at Broadway and Arch Street. The motion was seconded by Councilman McNulty,
but upon voting, the motion was lost because the other five councilmen voted "No". t
There was read and ordered filed a letter from Alfred Morton, Recreation Director,
thanking the Council and the City Officers for assisting him in making success-
ful the Redwood City Cross Country Run, on October 24, 1937•
There was read letters from Wm. J. Owen, pastor of the Methodist Church, and Charles
H. Gatchell, pastor of the Baptist Church, in which letters these representatives
of the churches protested the scheduling of athletic and similar events Sunday
mornings within the hours usually devoted, by those who care to do so, to
attending church service. They referred particularly to the Cross Country kan
and to the Port Ceremony and Harbor Festival. The Clerk was told to explain
to these protestants that it was the intention of the Council not to infringe
upon the rights of the church going public by sponsoring the celebrations
referred to; that in the future this would be taken into consideration, but
that it seems impracticable for several reasons to have the cross country run
at any other time.
On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen, the Council
approved recommendation of the Planning Commission that permission be granted
to Hoeffler and Cha elle to rearrange Lots 6 and of Block 1 Oak Knoll
PP 7
Manor, to face South Gate instead of Outer Circle.
el
