34
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
r AUGUST 7, 1933
8:00 P.M.
Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor W. J. Dusel, H. A. Beeger, C. J.
Hildebrant, R. N. Jones, C. G. Lambert, Paul A. McCarthy, Geo. W. McNulty, City Clerk,
B. E. Myers. Absent: None.
The minutes of the meeting of July 17 were approved on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded
by Councilman McNulty.
Mrs. Annette Haddix who manages the Dew Drop Inn at 934 Main Street appeared before the Council
regarding the parking space in front of her restaurant. It developed from a discussion
that she was a renter from the General Petroleum Corporation and as her complaint had to
do with the Service Station on the corner, which is also rented from the General Petroleum
Corporation, it was thought best that she take the matter up directly with them.
R. E. Bruce, a plumber who lives at 146 Birch Street, appeared before the Council concerning'
complaints that he had stored plumbing material in his yard and that the noise of dropping
pipe had disturbed his neighbors. However, after discussion, on motion of Councilman
McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Jones, Mr. Bruce was given permission to have his license
renewed with no intimation, however, that the Council sanctioned his present use of the yard
as a storage place. This matter was referred to the City Manager to investigate.
Holt & Co. indicated a willingness to turn over their "Emerald Lakes electric sign provided the
city would take care of it. As there were a few items to be gone into, the matter was laid
over until the next meeting to permit the Manager to get further data.
The Clerk reported concerning correspondence of the Pacific Greyhound Lines, Inc. and their
schedule through Redwood City and was requested to ask the California Railroad Commission
if the schedule agreed with the schedule filed with that Board.
In a letter to the Council, the San Mateo County Renovize Committee asked that a contribution
be made by the City amounting to $240 toward defraying expenses of the movement. Council—
man Seeger suggested that it might be a profitable thing to do because this movement might
make it necessary to spend less money for relief this winter. Finally, on motion of Council—
man Beeger, seconded by Councilman McCarthy, it was decided to contribute $200, to be taken
from the Unbudgeted Reserve Fund.
The City Manager explained about the projects under consideration for presentation under the.
National Recovery Act and on motion -of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty,
the City Manager and the City Engineer were authorized to proceed in preparing and pre—
senting to the State Administrator, Justus Wardell, the extension of the Emerald Lake Water
District.
The City Treasurer brought up the question of whether the city should consider the San Mateo
County Bank as a third bank in this community and thus entitled to a third division of the
city deposits or whether this bank should be considered as directly a branch of the First
National Bank. On motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the
Treasurer was authorized to use the First National Bank and the Bank of America as the two
city depositories.
0
0
9
i
