d
I 1
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 200 1937
5:00 P. M.
Upon roll call the following Councilmen were present: Councilmen L. C. Christensen,
J. M. Eva, E.
A. Fletcher,
Wm.
Hohn, R. N. Jones, G. W. McNulty, Mayor Paul A.
McCarthy, and
City Clerk B.
E.
Myers.
The minutes of the meeting of December 6 and the adjourned meeting of December 13 as
corrected were approved on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman
Christensen.
In a letter to the City Council, City Manager Dimmitt recommended that Grant and Hoffmann,
contractors for the improvement of Hillview Avenue, be given an extension of time
of 6 months due to their inability to complete their work because of too mach rain.
While it was considered not necessary to extend the time 6 months from the original
completion date of January 19, it was decided, on motion of Councilman Fletcher,
seconded by Councilman McNulty, to extend the time of the completion of the contract
to May 1, 1939.
The City Tax Collector in a letter to the Council, asked for instruction concerning the
interpretation of Ordinance No. 76, Section 7, setting up the license fee for pool
rooms and bowling alleys, and, in particular, referred to the request of J. C. Dodge,
operating a bowling alley at 2116 Broadway, Redwood City. After considerable dis-
cussion concerning the reasonableness of the ordinance and its applicability to the
various businesses affected, it was finally decided, on motion of Councilman Fletcher,
seconded by Councilmen Hohn, that the City Tax Collector be instructed to charge the
various businesses according to the ordinance, effective January 1, 1939, with
Councilman Eva voting "No.M
W. M. Rosenblum, representing the Tidewater Associated Oil Company, explained to the
Council that the man who had requested and obtained permission to locate a service
station on the northeast corner of Hopkins Avenue and E1 Camino Real had been unable
to carry on and that now the company wished to construct a station there. He was
referred to the Planning Commission with the intimation that there seemed to be no
reason wby, if his plans were acceptable to the Planning Commission, the construction
could not go on.
On motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Eva, the City Treasurer was
authorized to transfer from the General Improvement Fund of 1937, commonly known as
the 1915 Act Investment Fund, approximately $20,000 to meet the service requirements
of this Improvement Bond Fund of 1937 for the current year less a 10¢ levy included
in the budget and any moneys already in the fund.
;I
