MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 7, 1939
5:00 P. M.
Upon roll call the following Councilmen were present: Councilmen L. C. Christensen,
J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, Wm. Hohn, R. N. Jones, G. W. McNulty (came in late),
Mayor Paul A. McCarthy, and City Clerk B. E. Myers.
The minutes of the meetings of January 17 and 24 were approved on motion of Councilman
Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen.
There was read a letter from the Veterans of Foreign Wars indicating that the organ-
ization endorsed the Clean-up Campaign and had appointed on its committee Frank A.
DePatta, Albert S. Mayer, and Elmer H. Brown. The Clerk was instructed to acknowl-
edge the letter and refer it to the City Manager.
In another letter to the council, the Veterans of Foreign Wars promised support and co-
operation of the Post in the celebration of another harbor festival this year, if
held. The Clerk was instructed to bring up this matter at the March meeting.
A letter from the Redwood City Lions Club concerning the planting of trees which had
been furnished by that organization was referred to the City Manager, as was another
letter from the same organization concerning a general clean-up campaign.
In a letter to the Council the Redwood City Real Estate Board, by Teddy Lauman, asked
the policy to be followed by the city in connection with the sale of the lots taken
' over, and to be taken over, by the city for delinquent tax and assessment payments.
The clerk was instructed to refer the letter to Mr. George Paul for his reply.
The City Manager submitted the following letter to the Council:
"Subject to your approval, Mr. R. C. R. Morser has been appointed by
me as a member of the Redwood City Port Commission to serve the un-
expired term of the late Elmore B. Hinman. This term will expire
on the first Monday in July, 1940."
On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen, the Council
ratified the appointment by Mr. Dimmitt of R. C. R. Morser to the Redwood City
Port Commission.
The City Clerk, on motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, was instructed
by the Council to protest to the State Board of Equalization against the application
for liquor license for the sale of distilled spirits by Martin Wynne doing business
as the 2321 Club, at 2321 E1 Camino Real.
Mr. E. M. McGlade, representing the West Coast Advertising Company, asked for permission
to erect advertising panels at certain locations in the city. In order to consider
the matter carefully, it was thought best to refer Mr. McGlade to the Planning Com -
mission for that body to pass on the locations desired by this company.
Mr. B. J. Smith, of the community known as Friendly Acres, appeared before the Council
to ask if anything could be done to have that community connected with the Redwood
City water supply.
