i <br />1 <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />MARCH 7, 1939 <br />5:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call the following Councilmen were present: Councilmen L. C. Christensen, <br />J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, Wm. Hohn, R. N. Jones, G. W. McNulty, Mayor Paul A. <br />McCarthy, and City Clerk B. E. Myers. <br />The minutes of the meeting of February 21 were approved on motion of Councilman Christensen, <br />seconded by Councilman Fletcher. <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Hohn, it was decided again to <br />authorize a half -page ad in the California Real Estate Association's magazine to <br />be published in June at a price not to exceed $55• <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen, the following <br />applications for restaurant licenses were approved and granted: <br />Leo Garcia <br />John 0. Street <br />432 E1 Camino Real <br />506 Main Street <br />2075 Broadway <br />557 Main Street <br />2632 Broadway <br />Introduction on February 7 of ordinance amending Ordinance 327 was rescinded on motion <br />of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty. Following this, a new ordinance <br />amending Section 41 of Ordinance No. 327 providing for the assessment, levy, and <br />collection of taxes was introduced on motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Council- <br />man Christensen. <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Eva, there was introduced <br />ordinance licensing and regulating the running and conduct of pool and billiard <br />rooms and bowling alleys. <br />Pursuant to request of the Council, the City Manager filed an estimate of the cost for <br />widening Broadway between E1 Camino Real and the Southern Pacific Railroad, which <br />estimate showed an approximate figure of $12,000, including $1,400 by the Water <br />Department; omitting the Water Department figure, the cost would approximate $9 <br />per front foot. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, <br />the City Manager was asked to ascertain the attitude of the property owners affected <br />and if there would be any inclination on their part to stand the cost of the im- <br />provement. <br />Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposed the adoption of resolution <br />calling a general municipal election, setting up the polling places, and indicat=t <br />ing the election officials.
