R <br />The City Clerk was instructed to write Representative McGrath to ask if there had been <br />any legislation which would make it possible for Redwood City to obtain a grant <br />of funds, either R. P. C. or P. W. A., for the construction of a new library and <br />City Hall. <br />The City Manager reported the difficulty at the Port of handling lumber as at present <br />considerable lumber is tied up by labor organizations, and the space at the port <br />is not available for expected shipments. Request was made whether or not it would <br />be allowable to stack this expected shipment of lumber on Broadway near Chestnut <br />Street. The City Attorney advised that there might be objection to it and felt <br />that he could not recommend it, at least until the insurance company carrying <br />the public liability for the City agreed to it. The matter was left to the City <br />Manager with request that he ask the insurance carrier whether or not the company <br />would consent to any such an arrangement. <br />After filing affidavit of publication, Councilman Pletcher, seconded by Councilman <br />McNulty, proposed the adoption of Ordinance No. 409 granting to the Pacific Gas <br />and Electric. Company franchise for transmitting and distributing electricity <br />within the City. Carried. <br />I <br />There was ordered filed acceptance on the part of the Pacific Gas and Electric <br />r <br />Company of the electric franchise granted to it under Ordinance No. 108 of <br />' Redwood City. <br />There was also ordered filed bond of the company for $1,000 binding the company <br />to observe and perform all the conditions of said franchise. Following which, <br />on motion of Councilman Pletcher, seconded by Councilman Eva, there was adopted, <br />f <br />i <br />unanimously, resolution approving the foregoing bond. <br />ti In connection with the granting of the franchise for distributing electricity <br />i <br />in Redwood City, the company tendered a check for $2,500 in payment of charges <br />hitherto accrued, and on motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Council- <br />man McNulty, the resolution was adopted accepting the sum tendered by the <br />company as aforesaid. <br />After filing Affidavit of Publication, on motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Council- <br />man Christensen, Ordinance No. 1109, granting to the Pacific Gas and Electric Company <br />franchise for transmitting and distributing gas within Redwood City, was unanimously <br />adopted. <br />i <br />There was ordered filed acceptance on the part of the company of the gas franchise <br />granted under Ordinance No. 1109. <br />There was also ordered filed bond from the company in the sum of $1,000 by the <br />company binding itself to observe and perform the conditions of the franchise. <br />I- <br />
