R The City Clerk was instructed to write Representative McGrath to ask if there had been any legislation which would make it possible for Redwood City to obtain a grant of funds, either R. P. C. or P. W. A., for the construction of a new library and City Hall. The City Manager reported the difficulty at the Port of handling lumber as at present considerable lumber is tied up by labor organizations, and the space at the port is not available for expected shipments. Request was made whether or not it would be allowable to stack this expected shipment of lumber on Broadway near Chestnut Street. The City Attorney advised that there might be objection to it and felt that he could not recommend it, at least until the insurance company carrying the public liability for the City agreed to it. The matter was left to the City Manager with request that he ask the insurance carrier whether or not the company would consent to any such an arrangement. After filing affidavit of publication, Councilman Pletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposed the adoption of Ordinance No. 409 granting to the Pacific Gas and Electric. Company franchise for transmitting and distributing electricity within the City. Carried. I There was ordered filed acceptance on the part of the Pacific Gas and Electric r Company of the electric franchise granted to it under Ordinance No. 108 of ' Redwood City. There was also ordered filed bond of the company for $1,000 binding the company to observe and perform all the conditions of said franchise. Following which, on motion of Councilman Pletcher, seconded by Councilman Eva, there was adopted, f i unanimously, resolution approving the foregoing bond. ti In connection with the granting of the franchise for distributing electricity i in Redwood City, the company tendered a check for $2,500 in payment of charges hitherto accrued, and on motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Council- man McNulty, the resolution was adopted accepting the sum tendered by the company as aforesaid. After filing Affidavit of Publication, on motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Council- man Christensen, Ordinance No. 1109, granting to the Pacific Gas and Electric Company franchise for transmitting and distributing gas within Redwood City, was unanimously adopted. i There was ordered filed acceptance on the part of the company of the gas franchise granted under Ordinance No. 1109. There was also ordered filed bond from the company in the sum of $1,000 by the company binding itself to observe and perform the conditions of the franchise. I-
