393 On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, Sequoia Townsend Club No. 2 was given permission to hold a dance Monday evening, June 6, at the Woman's Club House on Clinton Street. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson, Sam Gold was given hermit to make additional construction at the Corner of Woodside Road and Orchard Avenue as indicated on plans submitted to the Council. The Planning Commission referred to the Council a letter addressed to the Commission by the Executive Secretary of the California Outdoor Advertising Association which, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, was ordered filed. The City Manager reported that George Paul had seen the owner of the property at 235 Hill- view Avenue and had not received any definite assurance as to what the owner would I do, but Mr. Paul had asked the owner to appear before the Council, which he failed jto do. It was decided, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that the Attorney be instructed to start abatement proceedings against this property as a public nuisance. The motion carried, but Councilman Hohn voted °No°. The question of title to the cemetery property was ordered brought up at the next meeting. Due to a slight infringement of the Building Code, the inspector felt he ought not to j give the people of the Baptist Church a permit to erect an extra building adjacent to their present church building before the matter was heard and decided by the Council. Although there was no formal recommendation at hand from the Planning Commission, it was ascertained by telephone that the Commission approved the re- quest of the church people and recommended that they be given permit to erect the building as shown on their plans. It was therefore decided, on motion of Councilman i Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, to permit this extension of the present building even though it would come to within 4 feet of the nearest property line. (Note: Letter from Planning Commission received later). The Attorney asked that the harbor purchase matter be brought up at the next meeting as well as the easement for a portion of Wharf Street. Mr. Fletcher reported in brief about the insurance covering the operation of the Redwood City Bus and thought that sufficient coverage was in effect at present but that perhaps the matter should be checked later, say the first meeting in July. Discussion was had concerning the recommendation of the auditor that the monies impounded by the Treasurer representing the taxes paid under protest by the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company be transferred into the General Fund as it was unnecessary to keep them in this special suspense fund. It was finally decided, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Anderson, that the Treasurer transfer to the General Fund 75% of these monies, retaining 25% in the Suspense Fund and that if further tax payments are made under protest, that he -should impound in the Suspense Fund only 25% of such payments.
