394 <br />The City Attorney read and explained a letter from James H. Mitchell pertaining to the <br />preparation of plans for the new library and his charges as an architect. The <br />Attorney also read and explained the proposed contract to be entered into by and <br />between_ the City and Mr. Mitchell. The Council approved the wording of the con- <br />tract, and on motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman McCarthy, <br />the City Manager was authorized to execute it. <br />Councilman Fletcher spoke about the work being done by Captain Bosshardt and indicated <br />that the gentleman would appreciate a little financial help. In order to have the <br />situation a little bit more clearly before the Council, Mayor Christensen appointed <br />Councilman Fletcher and Anderson as a committee to investigate and report. <br />Councilman McCarthy reported concerning conversations and correspondence with Mr. Young- <br />berg pertaining to the advisability of investing surplus city funds and read to <br />the Council certain recommendations made by Mr. Youngberg. It was decided, on <br />motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that the City <br />Treasurer buy, through the local post office, $10,000 par value U. S. Savings <br />Bonds, and that he arrange through Stone & Youngberg to have purchased for the <br />City account $10,000 pax value United States Treasury 22's due in 1949, and $10,000 <br />par value Redwood City Municipals of 1937. <br />The departmental reports were ordered filed. <br />The City Manager submitted for special consideration a bill of $1,010.143 for uniforms <br />In favor of Serbin's Uniform and Cap Manufacturing Co. of S -n Francisco, and this <br />claim was specifically approved on motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Council- <br />man McCarthy. In connection with this claim the City Manager explained that the <br />Serbin people had assigned the entire claim to L. & M. Glaser, San Francisco, the <br />evidence of which assignment would be attached to the claim. Following this, on <br />motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the other claims <br />were all ordered paid as approved. <br />Adjournment at 12:10. <br />BEM: HAS <br />City Clerk <br />P <br />
