396 r Mr.Frank Tieso,owner bf property at 235 Hillview Avenue, appeared before the council concernin- the building at this place which he had been requested to remove. He explained that he wanted to do whatever was right and.that if it was necessary, he would tear down the structure. He vas assured that such action on his part would be what the Council would like to have done, and he was given un- til July 15 to see that the building was removed. Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposed the adoption of the following resolution: it RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Redwood City, that the Honorable Frank F. Merriam Governor of the State of California, be and he is urgently re- quested to take the necessary steps to mnvey title to the Union Cemetery property in Redwood City, which now stands in the name of the Governor of the State of Calif- ornia in trust, to the City of Redwood City so that said City may expend its funds in beautifying and maintaining this old cemetery. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Frank F. Merriam, Governor of the State of California and Honorable A.E. Stockburger, Director of Finance, at Sacramento, California." Unanimously carried. Affidavit of lsublication of Notice of Hearing on the proposed election for the annexation of Friendly Acres ivas filed. There was presented to.the Clerk a petition on behalf of the pro- ponents asking that the election be called regardless of any consideration for the furnishing of water. Quite a number of written protests were filed together with a. petition signed by 73 persons protesting the holding of the election, or the annexation. The City Attorney ad- vised that where protests were made,. it would be necessary to ascertain the number of parcels of property within the district proposed to be annexed and then ascertain whether or not the owners of a majority of the respective parcels protested the proposed election and an- nexation. If more than half of the respective parcels protested, the matter would be taken automatically out of the hands of the Council. Accordingly, the City Manager was asked to obtain this information and make his report at the next meeting. In this same connection, the City Attorney was asked to investigate and make report concerning the legality of includ- ing a narrow strip of land between this community and Redwood City in order to join them under annexation proceedings. On motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Jones, this proceeding was continued until the next meeting. The City Attorney reported that he -hoped to get the easement from Mr. Froamsoon, and the matter was continued. The City Manager asked that the consideration of bleachers at the Yacht Harbor be continued until the next meeting. Mr. Vandervort, operating the bus line within the city limits, presented a report showing that his expenses exceeded his income by about $300 for the period of operation. It was decided, on motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman- Pletcher, that the City would aid Mr. Vandervort by striving to build up his business. It was proposed to locate benches at cer- tain places, erect cards showing, the bus schedule, etc., with the understanding that the total contribution over a period would be under the supervision of the City Manager and not exceed $300. It was also decided, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the proposed change of rates as follows would be acceptable:
