MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 5. 1933
5:00 P.M.
Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor W. J. Dusel, H. A. Beeger, R. N. Jones,
C. G. Lambert, Paul A. McCarthy, Geo. R. McNulty, City Clerk, B. E. Myers. Absent: C. J.
Hildebrant.
The minutes of the meeting of August 21 were approved on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by
Councilman Jones.
A letter from the Redwood City Promotion Association suggesting that the Council make Montgomery
Street a one way. street was referred to the City Manager.
Councilman McCarthy presented and moved the adoption of resolution authorizing the Superintendent
of Streets to erect upon Broadway at the northwest, dorner of Perry Street and the southwest
corner of California Street, and upon Perry Street at the southwest corner of Broadway, and
upon California Street at the southeast corner of Broadway, signs providing "No U Turn" and
also upon Montgomery Street at the southwest corner of California Street an arterial stop sign.
Seconded by Councilman Lambert and passed unanimously.
The Clerk read a letter from H. A. Postlethwaite, San Francisco Attorney, representing J. F. 3happ
of Rakland, California. Mr. Postlethwaite requested the Council to give him some definite in—
formation concerning its attitude and contemplated action on 1915 Act Bond payments and delin—
quencies, having previously taken the matter, up with the City Attorney without satisfactory
reply. On motion of Councilman McCartby, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the Clerk was re—
quested to notify Mr. Postlethwaite that the matter was being given consideration and that
perhaps some definite reply could be made after the next Council meeting. The entire matter
was referred to the City Attorney for a written recommendation to be submitted to the Council
at the next meeting.
The City Tax Collector, in a written communication, addressed the Council concerning the Broadway
Style Shop at 2647 Broadway. This firm, in accordance with the City Ordinance, deposited
$100.00 in cash with the understanding that it would'continue in business for at least six
months. However, according to the City Collector, the proprietor is unable to make a success
of the business and expects to close September 10. She requested permission to refund this
$100.00, less what would be a reasonable charge for business license during the period this
firm was actually doing business. The City Collector was instructed to make the refund as
recommended by her after the close of business on September 10.
Muller, McGarvey and Flynn, owners of certain property lying between the creek and the new postoff ice
pr6petty,, asked the Council whether or not it would accept this parcel from them. On motion of
Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Jones, it was decided to accept the parcel of ground
indicated and the City Attorney was instructed to draw up the necessary deed and resolution.
On motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Jones, Councilman McCarthy was given permission
to leave the state.
u
a
i
Y
