0 �I MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL June 20, 1939 Upon roll call the following were present: Councilmen Harold F. Anderson, E.A.Fletcher, Pim. Hohn, Robert N. Jones, Paul A. McCarthy, George W. McNulty, Mayor L.C. Christensen;; ab- sent, and Clerk B.E. Myers. Upon motion of -Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, and carried, Councilman Anderson was elected Clerk pro tem. The minutes of the meeting of June 6, 1939, were approved on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson and carried. Mr. Max Leonard spoke about the loss of the Sea Scout Regatta to the Redwood City Yacht Harbor and upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher and carried, it was ordered that a communication be sent to the Scout headquarters in Los Angeles expressing regret over the loss of Redwood City not b eing selected for the Scout Regatta this year; said communication further to ask the Scout headquarters whether or not the loss of the Sea Scout Regatta was due to any lack of hospitality or facilities supplied by Redwood City. James M. Eva appeared and requested a permit to divide his lot on the northeast corner of Elwood and Brewster Streets. Councilman Fletcher moved that the permit requested by James M. Eva be granted subject to the approval of the Planning Commission. As there was no second to the motion it was lost. Mr. Thomas Nelson appeared before the Council relative to a permit to build upon Lot 9 in Lexing- ton Park and after a discussion by the Council, upon motion of Councilman Fletcher, second- ed by Councilman McCarthy}the permit requested by Mr. Nelson was granted. Mr. Cheatham applied for a permit to construct a building on the Southern Pacific property west of Rogers Street. After a discussion of the matter by the Council by motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson and carried, the uermit was granted. qhe Friendly Acres Annexation matter was taken up and a letter was presented by the City Manager showing that the number of urotests against the annexation did not include a majority of the parcels included within the territory -proposed to be annexed. The City Attorney reported as requested at the previous meeting of the Council that after his examination of the law he was of the opinion that the annexation of the territory could not be maintained or vali- dated by reason of the fact that a ten foot strip of Bay Road connected the present city lim- its with the pro-oosed Friendly Acres territory, a distance of practically a mile. The Council upon this recommendation decided to take no further action in the matter. Mr. J.B. Oswald appeared and asked permission to construct a house on the north half of lot 96, Wellesley Park, no part of said house to be within thirty feet of the property line excepting an "Ll' shown upon the plans submitted, provided Mr. Drathman, the Building Inspector, as- certained in writing from the owner on the northwest side of said lot that there was no ob- jection to the granting of said permit.
