MINUTES OF REGULAR M ,TING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL =_ DECEMBER 199 1939 9:00 P. M. Upon roll call the following were present: Councilmen H. F. Anderson, E, A. Fletcher, Wm. Hohn, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, G. A. McNulty, Mayor L. C. Christensen, and City Clerk B. E. Myers. The minutes of the meeting of December 5 were approved on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson. In line with recommendation of the Planning Commission that Lincoln Avenue between Roosevelt and Vera Avenue be closed as requested by Adanell Gerwin, the Council, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, concurred in this recommendation and ordered that particular part of Lincoln Avenue closed with the understanding that the cost would be paid by Miss Gerwin. Following the recommendation of the Planning Commission, permission was given to H. Hoefler to subdivide Lot 5 of Block u, New High School Acres, into 3 lots, on motion of Coundilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Anderson: In connection with the request of Joseph Costello that the set -back requirements at the corner of Hopkins Avenue and Arch Street -be changed because he wished to erect an apartment house at that site, the Planning Commission recommended allowing a 20 foot set -back on Hopkins Avenue and 10 feet on Arch Street. Although considerable discussion.ensued concerning the handling of set -back restrictions, the recommendation of the Planning Commission was finally approved a n t Fletcher, seconded b Councilman McCarthy. I h9 same on motion of Councilman , y by connection, the Planning Commission indicated that proceedings would be started at once to re-establish the set -back -lines in that particular vicinity. Bryce Mair, representing the owner of the property at the northwesterly corner of Brewster Avenue and Bayshore Highway, asked permission to erect a service station on that site. The Planning Commission approved the site for a service station, but insisted that the station be of ornamental steel construction. Considerable discussion ensued concerning the application primarily because of a letter from the Division of Highways indicating a desire on the part of the State to reserve an extra 30 foot set -back on each side of the present highway. Mr. Muir contended the proposed lessee of the property could not possibly operate a service station 30 feet back from the property line. It was finally decided, on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson, to grant the permit for the service station without giving consideration to -the request for 30 -foot reservation for extra width.of Bayshore Highway, Councilmen Hohn, McCarthy, and Jones voting "No.„ The City Tax Collector submitted the following letters 491
