#i
C
:1
0
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
F=OOD CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 19, 193+
9:00 P.M.
Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor W. J. Dwelt M .A. Beeger, C. J.
Hildebrant, R. N. Jones, C. G. Lambert, Paul A. McCarthy, Geo. W. McNulty. City Clerk,
B. E. Myers. Absent: None.
The minutes of the meeting of February 5 were approved on motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded
by Councilman Hildebrant.
A. J. Dempsey of the Veterans) Council appeared before the City Council concerning his request
to rent the Veterans Hall to non -veteran organizations and voluntarily withdreg his appli—
cation, having learned there was some opposition to the idea.
Al Anderson asked for a special rate for a weekly dance at the Foresters Hall with the possi—
bility of also having special entertainment. On motion of Councilman Hildebrant, seconded
by Copncilman McCarthy, it was decided to grant a permit with the charge of $10.00 a month
for one night a week up to 12 p.m.
On motion of Councilman Lambert, seconded by Councilman Beeger, a contribution of $50.00 was
granted to the Boy Scouts of America.
Following up a previous suggestion, Councilman Beeger reported on his endeavor to correlate the
County and City forces on the improvement of the Woodside Road. The contemplated project
was estimated to cost about $ VOO- 00, of which the Civil Works Administration would be
requested to furnish something like $34,000.00, leaving about $4,300.00 to be raised by
the local community. Councilman Beeger asked the Supervisors to appropriate this amount in
consideration of the contribution already made by the City in placing culverts along the
Woodside Road at the expense of approximately $99000.00. He reported that final decision
was that, of this approximate $4500.00, the County would agree to contribute one—half,
leaving the other half to the city. It was explained that part of this estimated $2,150.00
could be handled by the regular city departments so that the actual cash to be secured would
be about $1,500.00. On motion of Councilman Seeger, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, it
was therefore decided that the City Manager and City Engineer follow through on the appli—
dation to make possible this improvement of the Woodside Road from the Highway to the Horgan
Ranch line.
The question of rezoning the two lots at the corner of Middlefield Road and Chestnut Street as
required by D. L. Walter came up for hearing. Affidavit of The Tribune showing publication
of notice was ordered filed. Howard J. Canine filed written and also presented an oral
protest to the rezoning of these lots but after due consideration the ordinance instructing
the City Engineer to rezone these lots was introduced, on motion of Councilman McNulty,
seconded by Councilman Hildebrant.
In regard to the waiving of the collection of wood tax as requested at the last meeting by
D. L. Walter, the City Manager filed written report indicating the total delinquency in
weed assessment to be over $2,200.00 and recommending that no allowances be granted to
individuals because it would necessitate the same treatment to all if the City were not to
show discrimination. Mr. Walter was consequently told that the Coulcil could not con—
if
