Beeger,
D
C. J. Hildebrant, R. N. Jones, C. G. Lambert, Paul. A. McCarthy, Geo. W. LScNulty. City
Clerk, B. E. Idyers. Absent: None.
k
The minutes sof the meeting of February 19 were approved on motion of Councilman McCarthy,
seconded by Co-sncilman Lambert.
The Greater South Redwood Improvement Club asked the Council to have a white line painted
dorm the center of the Woodside Road to minimize the likelihood of running off the road
during foggy weather. The request brought out a discussion of the desired improvement
of the Woodside Roars as previously considered and after a further report by Councilman
Beeger, it was finally decided, on his motion, seconded by Councilman McCarthy, that the
Engineer and the Manager be -instructed to proceed toward the building of a culvert on the
easterly side of the Woodside Road, the construction to consist of masonry walls, concrete
paved floor with a reinforced concrete slab on top to provide sidewalk facilities, the
work to be started in the block between Cypress Street and I3urray Court; the City to con—
tribute $2,150 and San Mateo County a like sum, for the cost of materials and equipment;
the labor to be furnished by the County Emergency Relief Administration.
A letter was received from the California Highway Commission indicating that that body had passed
a resolution recommending and requesting that the City Council and the Planning Commission
of Redwood City take such action as may be necessary to establish setback lines along E1
Camino Real within the corporate limits to provide a clear area 100 feet wide for the state
highway. In line with this letter, and following up the expressed sentiment of a special
citizens) meeting a week before, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman
Hildebrant, the City Engineer and City Attorney were instructed to have a conference with
the State Highway Commission as to the establishment of the center line for the highway and
then to prepare an ordinance establishing setback lines in conformity thereto for the 100 ft.
highway.
There was read a letter from Sam D. ilerk, Director of the San Mateo County Emergency Relief
Administration, in which he said that the relief formerly carried by the C.W.A. was discon—
tinued and asked that Redwood City appropriate $100 a month toward the maintenance of local
relief offices, effective March 1. It was suggested that the City Manager ascertain what
was being done by the surrounding communities of Atherton, Menlo Park and San Carlos, as our
local district office would serve that territory. The Clerk was also instructed to write
these three cities a letter asking that they together contribute $50.00 to be matched by a
$50.00 contribution on the part of Redwood City to maintain such a district office.
At this meeting the question of the introduction of a 110ard Party Ordinance," was to come up for
consideration, but L.
