I
Redwood City would have the use of €€One Gamewell 10 -circuit Fire Alarm Switchboard, one
Gamewell 7 -circuit Repeater and One Gamewell 5-circuit.Repeater€€ for a period of three
years at an annual rental or lease of $1.00 per year. He explained that negotiations had
been entered into for the possible purchase of the equipment but recommended that the
agreement be authorized at this time. Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by
Councilman McNulty, it was decided to enter into the agreement and the City Manager was
given authority to execute the Lease.
J. W. Charlevi.11e, Executive Secretary of the League of California Municipalities, in a written
communication, explained the extraordinary activities of the League and solicited a contri-
bution of $60.00 toward meeting expenses incident to such activity. Upon motion of Council-
man McNulty, seconded by Councilman McCarthy, it was decided to contribute the requested
$60.00.
a
The City Manager, in a written communication to the Council, explained about the rapid develop-
F
ment of the use of "Citizens' Committees for Constructive Economy" to serve as Advisory
Boards, both for the administrative officers as well as for the Council, indicating that
Subdivision (K) of Section 25 of the City Charter would cover such an appointment by the
City Manager. Those appointed by him to serve as such committee are: 0. M. Carrington,
Geo. A. Merrill, J. E. Morrish, Carl Beeger, Norman Pendleton, Z. T. Thorning and C. G.
Uhlenberg. In closing his letter, the City Manager asked the Council to concur in his
action which was done on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Jones.
A petition was presented, signed by several property owners in that vicinity, protesting the
erection of a certain building on Alameda de las Pulgas between Brewster Avenue and
Hopkins Avenue. Upon explanation by the Building Inspector that the construction of the
building was in compliance with the ordinance regulating such building, it was explained
to the protestants that the Council bad no jurisdiction as to the value or cost of such a
building provided the construction was in line with the building ordinances.
Mr. P. Houseman of Atherton requested special permission of the Council to erect two houses
on a lot on Topaz Street. Mr. Hauseman explained that because of the peculiar construction
of this parcel of land, it was practically impossible to create two lots facing the street
and also not feasible to use a right of way or easement across the front lot to get to
the portion in the rear. However, that there might not be any objection on the part of
the adjacent property owners in making an exception in the case, Mr. Hauseman was asked to
get consent of the other property owners of.that block and take up the matter at the next
meeting.
The City Attorney reported, in connection with the 1915 Bonds held by J. F. Knapp of Series K-12,
that he had been unable to reach Mr. Kenppls attorney but would try to do so in a few days
and perhaps have something further to report at the next meeting.
Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, offered and moved the adoption of a
resolution directing that the City Attorney arrange, if possible, a conference among the
City Attorneys of local cities to work out some recommendations for the respective Councils
'75
