MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 42 1939
5:00 P. M.
Upon roll call the following Councilmen were present: H. F. Anderson,
E. A. Fletcher, Win. Hohn, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, G. W. McNulty,
Mayor L. C. Christensen, and City Clerk B. E. Myers.
The minutes of the meeting of November 20 were approved on motion of Council-
man Anderson, seconded by Councilman Fletcher.
This was the time for hearing on the proposed opening of Cedar Street. Louis
Dematteis, and others, addressed the Council concerning the proposal
and the amount of assessments that various property owners would have
to pay. In an effort to reduce the total amount necessary, the City
Manager submitted a plan whereby the City would waive collection of
back taxes and street assessments and the property owners would co-
operate in moving the building on the parcel now being occupied. On
motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the
City Manager was asked to talk over his proposal with the property
owners affected and endeavor to work out a plan according to his latest
suggestion.
F. E. Brumblay of San Carlos appeared before the Council to explain that he
was unable to arrange a permanent location at the corner of Stambaugh and
Main Street as he had proposed and asked if it would be all right for him
to use the Tribune office as his office or place of business. In connec-
tion with this, the Clerk read a letter from the City Collector indicat-
ing that Mr. Brumblay had been given a temporary license up until December 7,
but after that date, because he had no regular place of business in the
city, his license fee would be $2.50 per day. It was finally decided, on
motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Anderson, to permit
Mr. Brumblay to consider the Tribune office as his place of business; upon
roll call Councilmen Fletcher, McNulty, and Christensen voted "No".
Thomas Cutting of the Lions Club addressed the Council to ask for a donation of
$25 to assist his organization in the development of the Christmas tree
decoration during the holidays. The appropriation was authorized on motion
9
of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson.
Robert Wood addressed the Council concerning the hiring of men who do not meet
the qualifications set up in the charter, that is, to have residence in Red-
wood City for at least one year prior to employment. Reference was made
r' more particularly to the employees at the Port, including the Manager.
