00?
E
Upon the representations of C. G. Lambert that in order to present the
i
Messiah the Bel Canto Chorus found it necessary to employ a pro-
fessional orchestra costing $150, the Council decided to make a
further appropriation of this amount for this purpose on motion of
Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Anderson.
Peter Sorenson and other contractors discussed with the Council the pro-
posed ordinance licensing contractors contending that no discrimin-
ation should be made in the amount of the license and recommending
that all pay $25 a year with a proviso that outside contractors be
charged an extra registration fee of a reasonable amount. It was
finally decided to instruct the City Attorney to amend the proposed
ordinance so that the definition of "general contractor" would include
also the term "builder"; that all contractors pay $25 a year, and that
others not having a fixed place of business in Redwood City pay an
additional registration fee of $10. From the generalization above, it
was decided to exempt tree spraying contractors.
r
Upon the recommendation of the city Planning Commission, permission was given
to R. A. Brassy and L. Nicoli to put through a street on the westerly
side of E1 Camino Real to Oakwood Boulevard according to sketch sub-
mitted; this on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman
Anderson.
Upon the recommendation of the city Planning Commission, Thomas Nelson was
given permission to subdivide Lot 3, Block 3, Nev, High School Acres,
per sketch submitted.
The City Manager in a letter called attention to the request of the "Techno-
crats" to erect signs along El Camino Real and Bayshore Highway announc-
ing time and place of meetings in Redwood City. As no one seemed to
be possessed of information concerning this organization, it was decided,
on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, to
lay the application on the table until more data could be obtained.
The City Collector submitted letter showing that during the month of November
lots had been sold for cash amounting to $4,000, and on terms amounting
to $6,725. C. H. Holt of the Real Estate Department also filed a letter
substantially in agreement with the collector's letter.
There was submitted copy of ordinance of the City of San Francisco request-
ing that the City of Redwood City give right-of-way for a short distance
on Alameda de Las Pulgas for the construction of a sewer,, and in accord
with the same, Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson, J I
