109 <br />the desirability of moving the present traffic sign from near Oak Avenue <br />to some place below Charter Street. He particularly emphasized the <br />deaths that had been caused by inadequate lighting and the absence of <br />sidewalks. The Council agreed with his statements and indicated some <br />r of the work had been held up pending the widening of the highway. How- <br />ever, the matter was referred to the City Manager to see what could be <br />done immediately about lighting and the moving of the traffic sign. <br />E <br />G. L. Bedbury of 502 Quartz Street asked for permission to subdivide Lot 23, <br />Block 8, of New High School Acres, and permission was given on motion <br />of Councilman'McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the Planning <br />Commission having previously recommended such approval. <br />John Williams made personal application, in addition to written application <br />by his attorney, for permission to conduct the business of "Phrenology" <br />in Redwood City. He insisted that he should not be cataloged with <br />astrologers, fortune tellers, mediums, or clairvoyants. The Council, <br />however, -did not seem willing to make the distinction, and no action was <br />taken. <br />R. A. Brassy of the Brassy and Niccoli Realty, Company followed up previous <br />application for permission to erect at their wain office a large sign <br />advertising the new tract in Oakwood Park. Permission was granted for <br />six months on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman <br />Anderson, with the understanding that it was revocable at the pleasure <br />i <br />of the Council and especially if the Council were embarrassed by a great <br />number of requests for signs of a similar nature. <br />The City Tax Collector submitted the following letter: <br />"On December 9, 1939, the Mayor and City Manager <br />recommended that the sum of seven dollars and <br />fifty-nine cents (07.59) be accepted in payment <br />on the following ropert instead of twelve dollars <br />and seventy-nine 512- actually due if the total <br />6 <br />amount was paid in full. The property referred to <br />is Arb. Blk. 112, Lot 29, or legal description <br />Lot 30, Block 4, Jefferson Avenue Addition, assessed <br />in the name of T. A. Glynn. <br />Delinquent taxes X5.29 <br />Delinquent Weed .36 <br />1939 -40 Tax 1.9� <br />Tax penalty �_ <br />j� Total...................$12.79 <br />A payment has been made in the amount of $7.59. <br />it Please confirm the above authorization.° <br />Authorization as requested was given on motion of Councilman Fletcher, <br />seconded by Councilman McCarthy. <br />f <br />i <br />1 i <br />
