110
Major H. W. Edmonds, personally, and also representing the local Real Estate
Board, asked the Council if it would be possible in the real estate ads
listing Redwood City lots to have indicated in them some expression
,
like "See your broker" in addition to the reference to the City Hall,'
and it was so ordered on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by
Councilman McNulty. Following this, there was considerable discussion
I
concerning the procedure being followed by the Real Estate Department
and especial emphasis was given to the custom of marking lots "Sold"
when the full down payment had not been made, thus making it unlikely
that any other real estate broker could sell the lots so tied up. As
a result of the discussion, it was decided, on motion of Councilman
I
McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Anderson, that the Real Estate Depart-
ment be instructed to show on proper maps only the•lots that were
actually sold or in progress of being sold because of the prospective
buyers having made the necessary down payment of 10 percent or a minimum
of $50. However, it was decided to make an exception in respect to
temporary payments of less amounts. It was understood that small pay-
ments of $5,$10, or $20 would hold the lots only for 49 hours, after
which the buyer must either lose his'option or make the necessary full
i
down payment.
1
The Clean Up During 1939 Campaign Committee filed a report showing recom-
mendations and what had been done, and the Clerk, on motion of Council-
man McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, was instructed to thank
the committee formally for what they had done and to refer the recom-
mendations to the City Manager.
The City Treasurer was authorized to sell the $10,000 U. S. Treasury 3 per-
cent certificate of 194$-46 and to buy from the proceeds $10,000 par
I
value U. S. Savings Bonds. j
Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson, introduced ordinance
amending Ordinance No. 421 and particularly referring to floor area of
one-story buildings. Carried.
Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McCarthy, moved the introduction
of ordinance regulating the alteration and repair of frame buildings in
districts other than fire districts. Carried. is
The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded
by Councilman Fletcher.
On motion of Councilman Hohn, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the Council
adjourned to 9:00 P. M. Monday, January 22, 1940. I
1'
City Clerk '
I
BEM:HAS
I
