174 <br />Letter was presented by General Properties, Inc., requesting permission in con- <br />templated improvement around the Signal Oil Company's service station at <br />the corner of Theatre and Hamilton Streets to substitute asphalt pavement <br />in the sidewalk areas instead of concrete sidewalks. On motion of Council- <br />man McNulty, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried, the request was <br />denied. <br />In connection with sidewalks on Middlefield Road near the creek and at the <br />corner of Theatre and Hamilton Streets, the City Manager was directed to <br />take such steps as he deems necessary to have the owners install these <br />sidewalks by the next meeting; otherwise, the Council will take the necess- <br />ary action to have the sidewalks constructed by public proceedings. <br />Letter from the Standard Oil Company of California that was submitted to the <br />Planning Commission at a meeting held June 3rd at 7:15 o'clock P.M. at <br />the City Hall requesting a permit to construct a service station on the <br />northeast corner of James Avenue and E1 Camino Real in conformity with <br />plans and specifications submitted to said Planning Commission and to the <br />City Council. City Manager Dimmitt, and City Attorney Mansfield, members <br />of the Planning Commission, reported that the Planning Commission had <br />regularly passed a motion recommending to the Council that the Standard <br />011 Company be granted the permit as requested when the Standard Oil Com- <br />pany had delivered to the City Council a letter agreeing, if and when a <br />setback was established on the northwest side of James Avenue at the loca- <br />tion of said proposed service station, to remove their buildings westerly <br />without any cost to the City if any setback that might be established did <br />not exceed 14 feet from the present northwest property line of said James <br />Avenue at said location. On motion of Councilman Edmonds, seconded by <br />Councilman Christensen, and carried, said Council concurred in the recom- <br />mendation of the Planning Commission. <br />In the matter of the retirement system voted at the last municipal election the <br />City Clerk was directed to again take up with the State Retirement Fund the <br />question of when they would have completed the additional actuarial survey <br />requested by the City. <br />The following letter was received from the City Collector: <br />"City Manager Dimmitt recommended that the sum of $124.22 be <br />accepted in settlement of the charges on the following prop- <br />erty instead of $$132.50 actually due if the total amount was <br />paid in full. The property referred to is Arb.
