porated in the minutes to that effect. (The City Attorney's decision
filed in "Attorney's folder" in the City Clerk's office).
On motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Edmonds, there
was ordered filed 'affidavits of the City Clerk for posting notices in-
viting sealed proposals for work under Resolutions of Intention 1940-3•,
Inner Circle, and 1940-4, Lexington Avenue. Following this, bids for
the work were opened and publicly declared as follows:
1940-3, Inner Circle, P. Sorenson $5,690.00
1940-3, Inner Circle, Marshall S. Hanrahan !!}},962.84
1940-4. Lexington Avenue, P. Sorenson 4,097.70
1940-4, Lexington Avenue, Marshall S. Hanrahan 3,665.30
These bids were itemized according to the proposal, but the figures
here shown represent the combined charges for comparison purposes. The
City Engineer indicated that all bids were considerably in excess of the
City Engineer's estimate of the cost, and he said that he was loath to
award the contracts on this price basis. It was explained that one prob-
able reason for the high figures was the difficulty of disposing of the
bonds at a proper figure. Finally, on motion of Councilman Werder, second-
ed. by Councilman Granger, it was decided to continue the hearing on the
award of contracts until the next regular Council meeting, 8 P. M., Aug-
ust 192 1940.
In regard to the proposal of Norman S. Menifee about the purchase of some 31
lots from his client, it was decided to take up this matter at the next
meeting.
It was also decided to defer until the next meeting the suggested parking
ordinance to enable some of the councilmen to make a further study of the
proposed changes.
Councilman Edmonds made a brief report concerning the civil service plan, but
had nothing to report on the retirement, and the matter was continued
until the next meeting.
Councilman Edmonds, seconded by Councilman Werder, proposed adoption of resolu-
tion accepting deed from A. McSweeney, Tax Collector, San Mateo County,
for the following property. Carried.
