There was read a letter from Harry H. Weiner in which he stated that the
chickens owned by Mr. Harder, near the Camino Villa subdivision, were
providing a public nuisance and retarding the development of that pro-
ject. The City Manager had the County Health Department investigate,
and there was filed a report from the Sanitary Inspector, in which it
was shown that Mr. Harder had complied with his requests about clean-
ing up and that the yards were clean. It was also shown Mr. Harder had
been having chickens at that location for, many years prior to any ord-
inance restricting such activity. The. Clerk was asked to write Mr.
Weiner to this effect and also to mention the action of the Council
concerning the old barn at the corner of Rogers and Arguello.
Robert Jones appeared before the Council to ask that the surface on Union
Avenue be made a full 20 feet rather than about 18 feet as at present.
He indicated that the property owners were led to believe that the width
would be 20 feet. The City Manager was asked to take care of it.
Recreational Director Alfred Morton appeared to request permit to hold pro-
fessional fights under the supervision of the State Boxing Commission
for the purpose of raising money for the recreation fund. Councilman
Edmonds propos'ed that permit be given, subject to approval of the Rec-
reation Commission, but his suggestion lost for grant of a second.
Councilman Werder thought the fights should be'limited to amateurs, and
his proposal also lacked a second. The outcome, no decision.
