I
Fl
1
James•Mandt of San Mateo, representing the relatives of Russell Larson who
drowned at the Yacht Harbor a few days ago, came before the Council to
demand that there be established a life guard at the Yacht Harbor.
After considerable discussion in which the councilmen indicated the
desirability of.having a life guard at that point, it'was decided, on
motion of Councilman Edmonds, seconded by Councilman McNulty, to have _
the City Manager confer with the Recreation Commission to work out some
practical plan. In the meantime, it was thought desirable to utilize
the services of a high school, graduate life guard which might be obtain-
ed on a temporary basis.
,,
John E. McCarthy, in a letter to the Council, asked the City to take,up with
the Pacific Gas and Electric Company the placing of'gas connections at
new houses early enough to avoid annoyance and possible discomfort to
the people moving into the new houses. The matter was referred to the
Building Inspector.
The City Manager, in a letter to the Council, 'recommended that the City adopt
the Plumbing Ordinance recently adopted by the County of San Mateo, and
effective July 1, 1940. As this proposed ordinance had been already
approved by the County Building Inspectors, Merchant Plumbers Associa-
tion, Journeymen Plumbers, and Associated General Contractors, as well
as by the City Building Inspector and City Manager, it was decided to
refer it to the City Attorney for his approval; this on motion of Coun-
cilman Edmonds, seconded by Councilman McNulty.
In a letter to the City, the City Manager recommended that two, safe cabinets
now in the Central Fire House be sold to James E. Townsend Company in
accord with their df,ier of $$210. The Manager was instructed to make the
sale in accordance with his letter.
On motion of Councilman Edmonds, seconded by Councilman Werder, the City
Manager was instructed to pay the bill of $10.30 from W. W. Hilton for
a trophy in connection with the July 4th.celebration, same to be charged
to the City Publicity Fund.
On motion of Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman McNulty, R. T. Coats
was granted a restaurant license at 2366 Broadway.
The City Tax Collector submitted the following letter:
"City Manager C. L. Dimmitt and committee recommended
that the sum of $216.74 be accepted in settlement of the
charges on the following property instead of $253.17 actually
due if the full amount was paid in full. The property re-
ferred to is Arb. Blk. 170, Lot 6 or legal description Lot 3,
Blbck.19, Eagle Hill Addition assessed to Gertrude F. Reed.
.2;0D
