Traffic conditions in general were then discussed at length and Mayor Anderson agreed to investigate the advisability of having a survey made by some outside agency. Also discussed along with traffic conditions was the matter of rail- road crossings, and on motion of Councilman Granger, seconded by Council- man Fletcher, the City Manager was directed to bring to the attention of the Railroad Commission the accidents occuring at the Rogers Street 'crossing. It was also decided, on motion of Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that 11R.R. Crossing" signs be painted on the streets at both sides of crossings where there -are no flagmen or gates. In 06nnecti6n with the Clean -Up Campaign Committee, there was read a letter from F. W. Thompson, Secretary, listing 7 additional cases for considera- tion. City Manager Dimmitt reported that letters were being sent by the Committee to the owners of property mentioned in the previous re -bort asking their co-operation. Mayor Anderson read a letter from the Boy Scouts of America expressing appre- ciation for service rendered by the City in providing trucks for their waste -paper drive. Special permit to conduct a poultry business at 351 Encina Avenue was granted Jay D. Lambert on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty. Application for restaurant license by Laura Ausland and Pearl Gange was ap- proved on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman.Werder. Application by Mr. and Mrs. G. P:: Bunch for permission to conduct a restaurant at 2090 Broadway was approved on motion of'Councilmari'Christensen, seconded by Councilman McNulty. City Manager Dimmitt reported it was necessary to employ a keeper at the Yacht ,Harbor and that he could engage the services of John Mackenhausen, Jr., former keeper, for the sum of 075.00 per month instead of $40.00 per month as had been previously paid. Authorization to employ Mr. Mackenhausen at the rate of 075.00 per month under such conditions as the City Manager may outline was given on motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. City Manager also reported it would be desirable for the City to have a boat at the Yacht Harbor and that a satisfactory one with an outboard motor could be obtained for $100.00, and on motion of Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the purchase of the boat was authorized.
