.i t <br />MINUTES OF REGUBAR'MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />JULY 20, 1942 <br />8:00 P.M. <br />Upon roll call the Following were present: Councilmen H. F. Anderson, <br />Carl A. Britschgi, W. W. Hilton, W. M. Werder, Mayor F. D. Granger <br />and City Clerk C. W. Eltringham. Absent: Councilmen E. A. Fletcher, <br />and G. W. McNulty. Also present were City Manager C. L. Dimmitt, <br />City Attorney Paul A. McCarthy, Chief of Police C. L. Collins, Fire <br />Chief M. E. Ryan and Building Inspector L. M. Duncan. <br />Minutes of the regular meeting of July 6, 1942 were approved on motion <br />of Councilman Werder seconded by Councilman Britschgi. <br />Claim for damages and expenses in the amount of $,2500.00 filed by Hannah <br />M. Courtney, for injury allegedly arising from fall on City Hall <br />steps was denied on motion of Councilman Werder seconded by Col4ncil- <br />man Anderson. <br />Ferris W. Miles was appointed Administrator for the conservation of vital <br />.war transportation and a committee composed of Albert J. McKnight, <br />Frank Shearer, Neil Van Sooey, W. H. Thorpe, Ronald Anderson, Paul <br />A. McCarthy, Louis Jenkins, T. N. Thompson, and Carl Stoner, were <br />approved on motion of Councilman Anderson seconded by Councilman <br />Werder. <br />Communication from J. L. Lodi and W. H. Thorpe representing employees of <br />the Fire and Police Departments respectively, expressing appreciation <br />for salary adjustments and increases, was read and ordered filed. <br />W. E. Landstrom appeared before the Council relative to anonymous com- <br />plaint relative to conducting a business of distribution of health <br />foods from his home at 1603 James Avenue. No action'*as taken on <br />the matter. <br />Communication from the City Manager advising that the Southern Pacific <br />Company expected to make a decision within the next week in connec- <br />tion with proposal offered by Mr. Hall of the California State Rail- <br />road Commission for protection for Jefferson Avenue and Maple Street <br />crossings was read. Following this, at the suggestion of Councilman <br />Britschgi, the City Manager was directed to ascertain if it was not <br />possible to arrange for parking of the railroad car, now left stand- <br />ing on the tracks near the Jefferson Avenue crossing, at some other <br />point where it would not obscure vision of approaching trains. Both <br />of these matters were ordered placed on the Agenda for the next meeting. <br />F, <br />
