5
in it, and explained the changes. Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman
McCarthy, proposed that the previous introduction,of the proposed ordinance be
rescinded and that the present ordinance as changed be introduced. Carried.
Councilman Fletcher and Mr. J. Hanna spoke about the condition of the "Winter's"
house on Fulton Street. According to their statements, the building was in a
very run down condition, and there was likelihood of undesirable tenants taking
over the property. In order to avoid this, the Clerk was instructed to write to
Mrs. Winter, the owner, and also to the Real Estate Board, to the effect that if
the house were rented or sold that extensive repairs would have to be made before
occupancy would be permitted.' This on motion of Councilman McCarthy, *seconded by
-Councilman Anderson.
The City Attorney submitted an ordinance adapting the uniform building code of the
Pacific Coast Building Officials Conference, but some objection was raised to
introducing the ordinance without more consideration being given to it, this
especially on the part of contractors and others who might be affected. It was
accordingly determined to postpone the introduction of the ordinance until a later
,meeting. It was suggested that toe Clerk write to the Contractors Assn: to
- notify them of'the intended adoption of the building code, and the City Manager
was asked to ascertain what other cities had adopted it.
Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McCarthy, proposed introduction of an
ordinance changing the set -back line on Hopkins Avenue between Arch Street and
Birch Street from 29 feet to 20 feet.
