112c•:That restrictions on parking be continued as at present on the southerly side
of Marshall Street between Hamilton and Winslow Streets to allow persons from
outside of the city with business at the Court House an opportunity to park
nearby. If
No. action necessary.
113. That when the parking stripes on Jefferson Avenue in front of the Post Office
are repainted, the angle of parking be made sharper to permit easier entry
to and exit from these parking areas, and thereby avoid interference with
utraffic passing along Jefferson Avenue."
Coune.11mayz• Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that •recom-
mendations be adopted.
That no change be made in the stopping place of the•11B11 Bus Line from its
t present stopping place at or near the northeasterly corner of Broadway and
El Camino Real, as there is no clear balance of advantages over disadvantages
to warrant any change being recommended.° •
No action necessary.
115• That no stop signs be installed at the following intersections:
a. Redwood Avenue and Valota Road; the relatively small amount of traffic
on Redwood Avenue and the opposition of Office of Defense Transportation
to too frequent stops being the reason for this recommendation,
b. Redwood Avenue and Hudson Street; the relatively unobstructed view of
this intersection and the wide area thereof being the reason therefor.
c. Roosevelt Avenue and Hudson Street; for the same reason that applies
to the last named intersection.
d. That at the intersection of Jefferson and Pennsylvania Avenues the stop
sign at the northeasterly corner thereof be continued as now.placed to
stop westbound traffic on Jefferson Avenue rather than to install signs
to stop northbound and southbound traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue."
-Recommendations accepted on motion of Councilman Armstrong, seconded by
Councilman McNulty.
116, That the Police Department be instructed'by the City Council to prevent the
Middlefield Bus, or any other passenger bus, from stopping in the fast lane
on Broadway, this being the repetition of a'complaint that was made and cor-
rected. about a year ago.11
On motion of Councilman Armstrong, seconded by Councilman McNulty, Clerk
was instructed to write Police Chief regUldbting that he check into the matter
to have this practice discontinued.
117. That diagonal parking instead of parallel parking be provided on the -westerly
side of Arguello Street between the northerly line of Marshall Street and the
southerly side of Brewster Avenue with no limitation of time. In view of the
lack of adequate parking facilities for commuters it was considered that this
would provide a suitable additional parking area for commuters, and that by
reason of the width of Arguello Street diagonal parking in this block would
not interfere with southbound traffic thereon, particularly since such diagonal
parking would not extend southerly beyond the• northerly line of Marshall Street.'
After considerable discussion, Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded1by
Councilman Armstrong, that matter be laid on table.
Mr. Fred Carbine appeared before Council to discuss safety ordinances and various
safety conditions referring especially to the crowded condition at the Redr?ood
Theatre. After considerable discussion, Fire Chief Ryan stated that he had
splendid co=operation from the local theatre managers in the past and stated
further that he would check into the matter with them.
Councilman Britschgi brought up the matter of bicycles which are left on the side-
walks in front of the theatres causing a menace to pedestrians. On motion of
Councilman Armstrong, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, City Manager Mead was
requested to investigate this matter and offer some solution at the next
Council meeting.
Councilman Armstrong reported as chairman of the committee appointed to work out de-
tails with Mr. Martin of the Redwood City Bus Line and his attorney for the
repayment of $1800.00. The proposed plan is as follows: a,promisory note in
0
U
4
