i <br />e <br />McNulty moved the permit be granted, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. Under the <br />question, Councilman Anderson asked if the permit were to be granted subject to <br />the same conditions as the last permit was granted. City Manager Mead explained <br />that no liquor was to be sold on Wednesday nights. Motion granting permit <br />carried unanimously. <br />Application for dance permit received from George Solari for Court Madrone, F. of A. <br />dances to be held December 11th and 18th. Councilman Hilton moved, seconded by <br />Councilman Anderson, that permit be granted. Under the question, Councilman <br />Armstrong asked if permit were to be granted with any special conditions. Counci:�.- <br />man Britschgi asked for report on whether or not dances were being conducted <br />satisfactorily. Chief Collins reported that the dances were being conducted <br />satisfactorily and that the Navy Shore Patrol has been represented at the dances, <br />Councilman Anderson asked if the Shore Patrol was represented because of the <br />request of the Council to which Chief Collins answered in the affirmative. <br />II. <br />« Motion granting permit carried unanimously under the condition that no liquor <br />other than beer be sold and that a special officer be in attendance, expense of <br />which.to be borne by the permittee. <br />City Clerk R. S. Dodge presented claim for damages in the amount of $10,000 from Henry <br />- Dombalian for injuries suffered as result of automobile accident on Bayshore <br />Highway between Rogers Street and Brewster Avenue on September 4, 19.3, claiming <br />negligence on part of the City of Redwood City. City Attorney McCarthy advised <br />the Council that there was no liability on the part of the City:!and Councilman <br />Anderson moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty that claim for damages be <br />rejected. <br />City Clerk R. S. Dodge read communication from the War Council requesting a statement <br />from the City Council as to their future policy in regard to continuing or dis- <br />continuing the War Council and civilian defense activities: <br />City Clerk R. S. Dodge read statement prepared by Mayor Granger -in regard to the <br />activities of -the Redwood City War Council, followed by a report of accomplish- <br />ments. <br />Mayor Granger asked each councilman for his opinion in regard to the importance of <br />civilian defense and whether or not its activities should be curtailed. <br />Councilman Anderson stated that it was his opinion that inasmuch as the Federal <br />Government had relaxed the dim-out regulations civilian defense activities should <br />be relaxed in some particulars. He commended the members of the War Council, <br />stating that they were a splendid group of men who have given their time to this <br />effort and should be commended and given full support. <br />Councilman Armstrong stated that as a member of the War Council he was in favor <br />of its activities continuing as at present. He believed the War Council should <br />be given 100% support of the City Council and felt that the report of accomplish- <br />ments for the past month spoke for itself. " <br />Councilman Britschgi brought out the fact that his remark at a previous council <br />meeting to the effect that the City Council close down civilian defense was <br />taken in the wrong spirit, and that he had meant to convey the idea that the <br />activities of civilian defense be slackened.
