Mrs. Miramontes advised the Council that she,does <br />,not issue a license until the pe.rmi.t has been approved by the Council. council- <br />man Armstrong amended his motion that the application not be granted until the <br />premises had been approved by the. Health Department and contingent upon the Healti_ <br />Department's approval to grant the license, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br />City Clerk Dodge read communication from the League of California Cities advising <br />Council that the League's request had been gran1od in regard to consideration and <br />ratification of pending approved city andcountycharter amendments at the, <br />Special Session of the State Legislature which will be held January 27. .Communl- <br />• cation was ordered filed. <br />City Clerk Dodge read communication from E. W. Butler, manager of the Redwood City <br />Chamber of Commerce, requesting the City to purchase a new supply of maps,: the <br />cost of which to be charged against the chamber of Commerce Publicity and -Adver- <br />tising Fund. City Manager Mead reported that he had received an estimate of the <br />cost of procuring these maps and that they would cost between $45 and $50. <br />'Councilman Fletcher believed it was a commendable idea and moved that the maps <br />be purchased. Motion seconded by Councilman Britschgi and passed unanimously. <br />Oity Clerk Dodge read communication from Frank DePatta, chairman of the,Redwood City <br />Salvage Committee, enclosing check in the, amount of $57.50 for scrap iron collecte <br />'in recent drive, $7.50 8£ which was from the sale of a part of a washing machine <br />sold by one of the air r:%!d wardens. Councilman Hilton asked if this money went <br />into the War Council fund. Councilman Britschgi asked .if it were leagal to sell <br />scrap iron to which Mayor Granger replied that the washing machine was the propert <br />_of the .air raid warden who sold the part. The money was referred to the War <br />Council Fund and it was directed that a letter of appreciation be sent to Mr. <br />DeP_.atta. <br />3ommunication from the California Municipal League was read by the City Clerk advising <br />of meeting to be held Thursday, January 200 at the Palo Alto Community House. Al <br />councilmen present signified their intention of being 'present. <br />31ty Clerk Dodge read communication from Helen. Crawford of the Peninsula Homes Company <br />requesting permission to remove boards from exisiring sign and replace with masoni <br />panels to be used as listing boards. Mrs. Crawford appeared before the Council: <br />stating that the existing board was in a dilapitated condition and that she <br />*wished to improve theappearance of the sig n, City Attorney McCarthy explained <br />the the main-bui lding is approximately twentyfeet back from the property line <br />aryl that Mrs. Crawford had originally made her application to Building Inspector <br />'Duncan who felt it was a m,tter which should be referred to the Council. City Attorney McCarthy read excerpts from the ordinance in <br />regard to the positions of signs. Councilman Britschgi said that according to' <br />the ordinance it is not permissible to put listirg3 upon a sign.
