,. MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
<br />REDIXOD CITY COUNCIL
<br />JANUARY 17, 1944,
<br />8:00 P. M.
<br />Upon -roll call the following were present- Councilmen C. C. Armstrong, E. A. Fletcher,
<br />W.• W. Hilton, G. W. McNulty, Mayor F. D. Granger and City Clerk R. S. Dodge.
<br />Also present. were: City Manager R. W. Mead, City Attorney Paul A. McCarthy,
<br />Building Inpsector L. M. Duncan, Fire Chief M: E. Ryan,.Polic a Chief C. L. Collins,
<br />City Collector N. L. Miramontes, Street Superintendent H. L. Winter and Health
<br />Inspector Royal Hodge. Absent: Councilman H. F. Anderson and Councilman C. A.
<br />Britschgi.
<br />Minutes of previous meeting were approved as mailed on motion of Councilman Hilton,
<br />seconded by Councilman Armstrong.
<br />City Clerk Dodge read communication from Mrs. Adolph Trager, and family expressing
<br />appreciation for expression of sympathy extended to them at the death of -Mr.
<br />Trager.
<br />Application for dance permit for dances to be held Saturdays,, January 22, 29 and
<br />February '5, at Foresters Hall, was received from George Solari for Court Madrone,
<br />F. of A.. .Councilman,Fletcher moved that permit be granted, Councilman Armstrong
<br />asked themaker of the motion to amend•his motion to include same restrictions
<br />under which the. previous permits have been issued. Councilman Fletcher amended
<br />his motion, seconded by Councilman Armstrong. Motion carried unanimously..
<br />Councilman Britschgi came into the meeting.
<br />Application for dance permit was received from Howard Frederic for dances to be held
<br />Wednesdays, January 19, 26, and February 2, the $5.00 fee covering the first two*
<br />dances having been paid. It was moved by Councilman Fletcher,, seconded by
<br />Councilman Armstrong that permit be granted subject to same restrictions under
<br />which previous permits have been issued. Motion carried unanimously.
<br />City Clerk Dodge read communication from Laura Roeder, president of the Belmont
<br />Chamber of Commerce, extending an invitation to a representative of the City to
<br />attend a luncheon on Tuesday, January 25th at the Hospitality House, Belmont,
<br />to discuss post-war planning on air transport facilities, with regard to suitable
<br />peninsula locations. On motion of Councilman Britschgi, seconded by Councilman
<br />Fletcher, City Manager Mead was chosen to represent the City at this luncheon.
<br />Application 'for restaurant license was received from D. A. Brimley for restaurant to
<br />be operated at 2036 Broadway for the purpose of serving short orders and sand-
<br />wiches. City Clerk Dodge advised the Council that the premises are being remodeled
<br />and have not been completed. The Health Department, therefore, has not been able
<br />to make an inspection of the premises and will not be able to pass on them until
<br />they are completed. CoHncilmen Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman Fletcher,
<br />that the application be held over until a report could be received from the
<br />Health Department. Councilman Britschgi, under the question, asked the maker
<br />of the motion to amend his motion to grant the permit subject to the approval of
<br />the Health Department. Councilman Armstrong asked who had the authority to pass
<br />on restaurants, to which City Attorney McCarthy replied that he belived the City
<br />061lector, Mrs. Miramontes, had the authority to issue the license subject to the
