F..C. and then the Council could decide whether <br />it should go before the voters at this -coming election. He.expl'ained that the <br />city will not be obligated to accept the money, but will know that the R. F. C. <br />is willing to make the loan. Motion passed unanimously. City Manager head said <br />he would send each councilman a report on the proposed plant irk order to <br />0 <br />1 <br />familiarize them with what was entailed in such a plant. <br />City Clerk Dodge read communication from Planning Commission recommending request of <br />N.Y. Nelson to approved to subdivide two.lots on Harrison Avenue and Jeter St. <br />It was explained that Mr. Nelson owned two lots fronting on Jeter Street, one ' <br />being a corner lot. He wants to subdivide them into two lots of 69 feet and 61 <br />feet and have them face to Harrison Avenue. Councilman Fletcher, seconded by <br />Councilman Anderson, offered resolution accepting recommendation of Planning <br />Commission. Motion passed unanimously. <br />City Manager, Mead advised the Council that he had a request from Mr: John:Fickheisen, <br />Chief -Sanitary Inspector of the Health Department, that the City Council pass an <br />ordinance which will prohibit people from cutting houses up into one and two <br />room apartments. City Manager Mead recommended that such an ordinance be drawn. <br />Councilman Anderson,.seconded by Councilman Fletcher, moved that the City <br />Attorney be instructed to draw an ordinance covering this matter. Motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />City Attorney MgCarthy brought up.the matter of election precincts. He estimated , <br />trhat there were 5400 voters in Redwood City, this estimate being .based on the <br />17% increase in population over the 1940 census. The County has 31 precincts <br />within Redwood City and there is a question as to whether the city -should increass <br />Its number of precincts. <br />City Clerk Dodge stated there were 8 precincts in the 1942 election and the <br />largest precinct showed a registration of 822. He suggested a plan -showing 10 <br />precincts. Councilman Anderson believed it was a matter for the City Clerk to <br />work out and present his recommendation. It was his opinion that there should <br />be 10 precincts. City .Clerk Dodge stated he believed 8 precincts were not <br />enough but the expense of adding two more entered into the matter.. Councilman <br />Anderson moved, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that there be 10 -precincts in <br />the .coming election. Motion passed unanimously. The Clerk was instructed to <br />advertise for election officers so that applications could be considered at the <br />next meeting. <br />Councilman Anderson moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty,.that the matter of placing <br />a directional sign at the end of Whipple Road and, at the suggestion of Mayor <br />Granger, to include Canyon Sanitarium and Cordilleras Road be referred to the <br />Traffic Study Committee. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Claims No. 3644 to 3712 in the amount of $6519.35 were approved and ordered paid on <br />motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Fletcher.
