Mr. Mead stated 'that he had received a <br />request for cross -overs so that garages would be accessible, which the Southern <br />Pacific had agreed to put in. This was not in agreement with the franchise <br />which calls for the Southern Pacific to maintain grade and pavement between the <br />rails and two feet on either side. <br />Communication was received from the -Traffic Safety Committee recommending the Council <br />i adopt an ordinance for one hour parking limit on Commercial Way from 8 A. elf. to <br />_ _6 P. M. City Manager Mead stated that Sergeant Thorpe had discussed the matter <br />with the manager of the Economy Drug Co. who had made the complaint of trucks <br />_ parking. all day long, and he believed the ,complaint was in'order. Councilman <br />tBritschgi didn't believe trucks could unload in an hour. City Attorney McCarthy <br />explained that it is a practice of the truck drivers to leave trucks parked and <br />make it impossible for patrons to enter the rear entrances of the stores. Counc <br />man Britschgi bqlieved the alley was there for the purpose of truck parking <br />and not as a by-pass for patrons. Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded by <br />Councilman Britschgi, that recommendation be laid over to the next meeting for <br />further study. <br />Communication was received from the Traffic Safety Committee recommending directional <br />signs be placed on Alameda de las Pulgas and Whipple Avenue showing Whipple Road, <br />1 Canyon Sanitarium and Hassler Health Home. Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded <br />a <br />by Councilman Fletcher, that recommendation be accepted. Under the question, <br />Councilman Britschgi asked if the city could put up a sign outside the city <br />limits. City Manager Mead believed the county would put up the sign. Motion <br />passed unanimously. <br />Councilman Britschgi stated that Weltner Motor Company had a 20 or 30 foot sign <br />l <br />t; <br />painted on side of building and asked.if.there wasnit an ordinance regulating <br />signs on buildings. City Attorney McCarthy said he did not believe so when the <br />sign was advertising stock in business. Mayor,Granger stated this matter was <br />up before the Planning Commission at the present time. <br />�f <br />Communication received from Traffic Study Committee recommending that request of <br />Mrs. Golden Schoennherr for unloading zone to be painted on curb in front of her <br />place of business on El Camino Real be granted. Councilman Fletcher moved, <br />seconded by Councilman Armstrong, that recommendation be accepted. <br />City Manager Mead advised the Council that a redraft of the agreement in regard to <br />the Kensington Square Sewer District had been submitted to Mr. Wilson, attorney <br />for the district. Mr. Mead had a copy of the letter Mr. Wilson wrote to the <br />district in which he referred the agreement to them. He had talked to Mrs. <br />x <br />Petitclerc, secretary of the district, who advised him the agreement had been <br />5 <br />approved. <br />Cf, Mr. Wilson, attorney, for,the district, appeared before the Council stating that <br />he believed that it was*a matter of one public corporation dealing with another <br />public corporation and that public service should be the thought in mind. He <br />believed that a charge of 10 cents a monthper household is all that the .City of <br />Redwood City should ask for the District. He stated that the cost of operating <br />the sewer system in San Mateo ran less than six cents on the $100 assessed <br />.h <br />
