MLI put in a safe condition. It was the opinion of Building Inspector Duncan and Health Inspector Stein that they were unsafe and unfit for human habitation. After considerable discussion, Councilman Armstrong moved that the city council extend Mr. Meussdorffer a reasonable time - 30 days - to plan or place the building in such a condition that it will meet the minimum requirements of health and safety as reported by the department heads involved. Councilman Granger stated he would second the motion with the idea in mind that Mr. Meussdorffer be given thirty days to report back to the council.- Councilman Armstrong stated tha; was the intent of his motion - that Mr. Meussdorffer contact the Building Inspector and Health Department and see if the building -could be made safe. He further stated that whatever decision he rendered would be in the interest of public safety and that he was going to tate the work of the department heads who had been sworn in and testified as to the menace of the building. Councilman -Granger seconded the motion. Councilman Fletcher stated -he was going to vote against the motion as he believed the matter should be laid over until the end of the war. Councilman McNulty stated he believed the motion was a wast of -time as nothing could be done. to the building. It was Councilman Anderson's opinion that the matter was dust being laid over thirty days and nothing would be accomplished„ Councilman Armstrong stated that with the consent of -the second, he would with- draw his motion. Councilman Granger refused to withdraw his second. Councilman Anderson believed all the buildings listed should be put on a continuing agenda and the Fire Chief, Building Inspector and Health Inspector should continue to add to the list until the war is over and the council act upon them at that time. Councilman Armstrong did not see the purpose of opposing his motion to grant the owner thirty days to fix his .building. Councilman Anderson stated that if -the extension of time were until after the war and the health menace cleared up- in thirty days he would not oppose the motion. :He stated he would like to vote on all the buildings at once without having a long discussion on each one. Council- man Armstrong stated that it they were brought before the council he was willing to take action on any or all of them as they were presented. Councilman Fletcher dial not believe'buildinge should be torn down that cannot be replaced. Councilmai: Armstrong requested a roll call on his motion, which showed the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Armstrong, Britschgi and Granger. Noes: Councilmen Anderson, Fletcher, McNulty and Hilton. Councilman Fletcher moved that the council post - 4 pone action until after the duration which would include these buildings and others and place them on.the agenda to be abated directly after the war. Mayor Hilton asked if he was going to allow the health menace to stand. Councilman Fletcher included in his motion that the health menace be reported and correction made. Councilman Armstrong was of the opinion that the suggested motion would be entire -1 ly ineffective, stating that the present council could not obligate any future council to take such action. Councilman Fletcher's motion was lost for want of a second. It was decided to ga on to the remaining proceedings without taking further action on Mr. Meussdorfferls property at the present time.
