MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />JULY 3, 1944 <br />8: 00 P. M. <br />On roll call the following were present: Councilmen C. C. Armstrong, E. A. Fletcher, <br />Floyd D. Granger, G. W. McNulty, Mayor W. W. Hilton and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. <br />Also present were City Manager Robert W. !,lead, City Attorney Paul A. McCarthy, <br />Fire Chief M. E. Ryan, Police Chief C. L. Collins, Building Inspector L. M. <br />Duncan, City Collector N. L. I.firamontes and Street Superintendent H. L. Winter. <br />Minutes of the regular meeting of June 19th and the adjourned meeting of June 26th <br />were approved as mailed on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Council- <br />man Armstrong.' Motion carried unanimously. <br />Application for dance permit was received from Yvonne Schlichtmann for dances to be <br />held Wednesdays, July 5th and 12th until 12:00 P.M., the $5.00 fee having been <br />paid. It was moved by Councilman Armstrong, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, <br />carried that the permit be granted. <br />Application for d ante permit was received from Court Madrone No. 158, F. of A., for <br />dances to be held Saturdays, July 8th and 15th. It was moved by Councilman <br />Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, and carried that permit be granted. <br />Councilman Britschgi entered the meeting. <br />Application was received from Thornton Wilder for license to conduct a pool room and <br />restaurant at 2303 E1 Canino Real, $20.00 fee having been paid for the restaurant <br />license and $1.00 fee having been paid for the pool room license. Councilman <br />Fletcher moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the permit be granted <br />subject to the approval of the health authorities. Under the question, Council- <br />man Granger suggested that the Police Department make an inspection. Councilman <br />Fletcher amended his motion to include an inspection by the police department, <br />seconded by Councilman McNulty. Motion passed unanimously. <br />City Clerk Dodge read communication from Fire Chief Mark E. Ryan in which he refuted <br />the statement made by Councilman Granger at the adjourned meeting of the council <br />that the veterans were not welcome to meet at the firehouse. Communication was <br />ordered filed. <br />Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded by Councilman Armstrong, that affidavit of publi- <br />On roll call motion passed with Councilman Granger voting in the negative and <br />Councilman Anderson absent. <br />6�a Councilman McNulty moved, seconded by Councilman Granger, that affidavit of publi- <br />cation of the war bonus ordinance be filed, Ordinance No. 505. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Councilman Fletcher, <br />seconded by Councilmvn Armstrong, moved adoption <br />of Salary ordi- <br />nance Ido. 504. <br />Under the question, Councilman Granger stated he <br />was still <br />opposed to the <br />type of ordinance. Councilman Britschgi asked if <br />there was any <br />t� <br />assurance that <br />a treasurer could be obtained for the $0600 yearly <br />salary provided <br />in the bue'.get. <br />Councilman Armstrong stated there was no assurance <br />but if one <br />could not be obtained for that salanj it would not invalidate the <br />ordiance. <br />On roll call motion passed with Councilman Granger voting in the negative and <br />Councilman Anderson absent. <br />6�a Councilman McNulty moved, seconded by Councilman Granger, that affidavit of publi- <br />cation of the war bonus ordinance be filed, Ordinance No. 505.
