E <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 21, 1944 <br />8':00 P. Ai. <br />On roll call the following were present: Councilmen Harold F. Anderson, C. C. <br />Armstrong, E. A. Fletcher, Floyd D. Granger, George W. McNulty, Mayor W. W. <br />Hilton and City Clerk Ralph S. Dodge. Also present were: City .Manager R. W. <br />Mead, City Attorney Paul A. McCarthy, Building Inspector L. IQ. Duncan, Police <br />Chief C. L. Collins, Fire Chief M. E..Ryan*, 01ty,Collector N. L. Miramontes, <br />Street Superintendent H. L. Winter and Health Inspector Emil Stein, Absent: <br />Coucilman Carl A. Britachgi. <br />Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the minutes of the <br />previous meeting be approved.as mailed. Under the question, City Manager Mead <br />advised the Council there was a correction to be made in the minutes relative <br />to the ordinance harmonizing the dates and rate of delinquency on tax bills <br />with the State law. The minutes should read: 'Councilman Fletcher offered <br />introduction of ordinance to harmonize dates and time for paying tax bills, <br />seconded by Councilman Anderson. *Motion passed unanimously.11. Councilman <br />Fletcher amended his motion that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved <br />as corrected, seconded by Councilman McNulty. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Application for dance permit was received from Yvonne Schlichtmann for dances to be <br />held Wednesdays, August 23rd and 30th, until 12:00 midnight, $5.00 fee having <br />been paid. Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman Anderson..,. that <br />permit be granted subject to the usual conditions. Motion passbd unanimously. <br />Application for dance permit was received from,Court Madrone No. 155, F. of A. for <br />dances to be held Saturdays, August 26th and September 2nd, until 1:00 A. M. <br />Councilman Armstrong moved permit be granted, seconded by Councilman McNulty. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from Mrs. C. L. Smalley, president of the Community Church <br />in San Carlos, requesting permission for the Junior Matrons of the Communi:V <br />Church to hold a ruomage sale on Main Street in Redwood City on November lst, <br />2nd and 3rd. Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded by Councilman Anderson, that <br />the permit be granted. Motion passed with Councilman McNulty voting in the <br />negative, his reason being that he believed organizations should hold such sales <br />in their own toms. <br />Communication was received from the Redwood City Traffic Study Committee recommending <br />the painting of a pedestrian traffic lane across Broadway at Arch Street to <br />facilitate the passage of high school students across Broadway. Councilman <br />Armstrong moved that the recommendation of the Traffic Study Committee be <br />approved and that the necessary work be ordered done, seconded by Councilman <br />Fletcher. Motion passed unanimously. <br />communication was received from the Redwood City Chamber of Commerce retuniing letter <br />soliciting advertising in the San Mateo Times for the City of San Mateo s 50th <br />Anniversary without recommendation. Councilman Anderson moved, seconded by <br />Councilman McNulty, that the letter be filed. Motion passed unanimously. <br />
